" in absolute terms you're correct. as an implied statement of technical competency, then I'd be less cavalier about dismissing French underwater defence technology. Contemporary French capability in signature mannagement is nothing to sneeze at - and there are quite a number of French sourced technologies that have given ASW teams grief. Thank goodness they don't export their really good stuff....

As an ex-Boeing employee, I can state with some certainty that the F-18 that you bought and that sold for less money to others were not the same plane! While they look like each other the Avionics are very different and much more costly! You bought delux and they got stripped down. Kinda, sorta, maybe, not quite. Boeing wasn't in the picture then. We bought exclusively from MacAir and yup, we got the interchangeable palletised nose recon kit that was an Aussie bonus.

Actually, other than replacing US Navy Autoland with ILS, deleting nose cat gear and adding an HF radio comms, our Bugs are no differnt from Spain or Canada's. I would be thrilled to bits if you could give an insight into what avionics were different.
