No more than the people of Hiroshima or Nagasaki. But better them than the people of Los Angeles or NYC. But hey it Europes ass. Iran can fire directly into Europe. You will learn one day to be pro-active. And its not murder. Its war.

First – You can’t compare the way of thinking in today’s World with that during WWII. Back the, vast amounts of collateral damage were politically accepted, but now they are absolutely unacceptable. America can’t just drop a nuke on a civilian city without serious internal consequences. Second – Likely, a first-strike nuke on an American city would be the result of terrorist activity, not a state sponsored act of war (even NK isn’t THAT stupid). America’s response would be a stronger version of what they did after 9/11, but I hope that scenario never arises. Third – America hasn’t declared war on either Iran or NK.

First – You can’t compare the way of thinking in today’s World with that during WWII. Back the, vast amounts of collateral damage were politically accepted, but now they are absolutely unacceptable. America can’t just drop a nuke on a civilian city without serious internal consequences. --You are correct here. But I am stating my personal opinion of what SHOULD be done. This will not happen. Just as President Clinton never even considered invadng Afghanistan and neither did President Bush until after 9/11. That doesnt mean that it wasnt the wise choice which it obviously was. And should a non state actor take residence in a nation post 9/11, the US will be coming pre-emptively as has been shown. The lesson was learned after the fact. After the unthinkable happens, many will agree with me but only time can prove my arguement. I hope I'm terribly wrong. But I fear that I'm not. Second – Likely, a first-strike nuke on an American city would be the result of terrorist activity, not a state sponsored act of war (even NK isn’t THAT stupid). America’s response would be a stronger version of what they did after 9/11, but I hope that scenario never arises. --Utter non-sense. No non-state actor possesses the means to develop or even aquire nuclear materials without state sponsorship. Even international terrorism cant exist on the scale of Al-Qaeda or Hamas without at least tacit support from state sponsors. There will be no independant nuclear attack in the near future. A government will have blood on its hands in the aftermath. That government will be nuked. Men, women and children will burn in US nuclear return fire. At it will be the right thing to do. Its just unfortunate that we wait to be attacked first to do it. Third – America hasn’t declared war on either Iran or NK. --Find the declaration of war on Iraq or Afghanistan...still looking...ok I'll wait...100, 99, 98, 97...Let me know when you are done...

elcid    the US would hold the manufacturer of any nuclear weapon used against them responcible   2/16/2005 6:13:22 PM
News flash: it does not take a country to make a nuclear weapon. I can make one. Three graduate students were hired to design a nuclear weapon with zero experience - as a test. They got it right. A junior college student BUILT a nuclear weapon - except only the nuclear material. You cannot trace the manufacturer when that manufacturer is a guy in a shop somewhere.

INDIA did not agree to NPT - Pakistan did. India was ASKED by USA to become a nuclear power (as a counter to PRC, by LBJ). India long delayed - hoping we would honor NPT - which we have not. [The deal was, WE disarm by 2000, no one else develops arms. Like it or not that is the original deal.]

Gix - you nuke any city and I will come for you. I hate nuclear wars and even a hint you really want to start one will bring me out. I once knew a US General who thought that was the way to win Vietnam. He didn't get do it though.

Nuclear warfare waged on civilians is illegal under US law. Do this and you will hang. Do this out of the blue and you might cause retaliation by Russia.

There are no enemy civilians. Only civilians in an enemy country. Gen Eugene Butler, last commander of SAC
