Subject: Obama's Disrespect
Jimme    3/14/2009 2:12:11 AM
I would personally like to apologize for the way our new President has treaty our closes ally. It fills me with disgust at the way the new administration is handling relations with the UK. To the point that they are even suggesting that there is no special relationship and that the UK is "just another nation". I would like to know how you guys feel about it and what you think should be done to correct this diplomatic blunder.

HERALD1357    Don't worry about it, guys.    3/16/2009 1:49:42 AM

Is there a link to this?

I must have missed this terrible insult.

Yeah, I must have missed this as well!!!  Are we talking about the little "faux pas" regarding the disparity in the gifts exchanged during PM Browns visit?  Yeah OK, a DVD set versus a pen holder made from the timbers of the sister ship to the one the desk in the oval office is made of means someone in the "Protocol Dept" frakked up.  But thats it.  To consider it a "Studied" insult is going a bit far.

Brown is a lot smarter than BHO.

Obama is so outclassed, its embarrassing.

I don't think it means anything but perhaps a little more thought wouldn't have gone a miss when your trying to rally allies to increase troop no.s in a-stan and you a buy a dvd boxset for the largest troop contributor outside the US. Although i'm not the biggest Brown fan I agree with Herald above. Obama is a good talker but I'm yet to be convinced that he has real substance.

First we had the DVD collection for the PM...

Then we had the Ipod for the Queen...

Which leads one to wonder if the White House staff gets all its gifts from Kmart.

Still - the Brits are the not only ones laughing at Obama.  We had the "reset" button for the Russian Foreign Minsiter - which actually translated to "overchage".  Better to give him a Staples button - at least he could have gotten some free office supplies.

Then there was the State Dept. conference call for all reporters covering the Obama Euro tour - where all the foreign reporters were given the wrong number to call - a pay by the minute sex line.

Sad... very sad.

To be honest i think anglo-american relations are effectively null and void for the duration of obamas presidency, he wasted no time at all in letting his disdain for us be known. Im sure one of his books described a scene where a british youth sat next to him on a passenger plane and he struggled to contain his rage... this rage may now have mellowed to mere contempt by now.

What we must realise is that this guy is temporary and when he is gone things will go back to "normal"

I confess that I was gutted when we won the election and suspected that soon for all intents and purposes the american alliance would be pretty much worthless until he was replaced.

As an American citizen, my president does not speak for all of the American people. The UK-USA alliance is very important to many Americans. Obama (I did not vote for him) will take a big beating in the midterm elections of Nov. 2010, he will lose much power. In 2012 I hope he is replaced by a new president who will restore the SPECIAL UK-USA relationship.

To the point that they are even suggesting that there is no special relationship and that the UK is "just another nation".

at first i was glad to see Obama in as president (although it had no real effect in me at the time so my opinion is void, has not my president, ha-ha), but then it struck me, the total disregard for our nation was appalling, our men and women were out in Afghanistan fighting and dying for what is effectively American policy, and we were proud to fight alongside our cousins from over the pond, but he seemed to forget that.

From my point of view it was as if he was treating us like little children, patronising us with politics, and taking full advantage of the US' political pushing power. the real stab in the back however came not from Obama, but from Hilary Clinton (god how i hate her), in the form of the Falklands dispute, how dare she try and get involved and the presume to tell us what to do with our sovereign territory, and then to make things worse she takes sides, so much for mediation. i mean who does she think she is, she acts as if she is the president herself, bossing the world around like it?s her play thing.

i am also particularly disappointed with Obama?s handling of the recent BP oil crisis, and the anti-British rhetoric he has taken, it is as if he is taking every opportunity that he can to make his disdain for us as clear as possible, and to make us look like the foolish guilty partner of the world stage, as he emphasises the companies British links at every given moment, although the oil crisis is regrettable, and the damage that has been done is terrible, there has been little consideration to the point that it may not entirely be BPs fault and the over aggressive claims are certainly not aiding the situation, it is his feeble attempt at trying to regain some popular standing with the American people, i only hope that in this phone call between David Cameron and Obama that we for once stand up for ourselves and defend our position instead of backing down to congresses political standing.

there is no need to apologise however, the people of America cannot be held accountable for Obama?s faults and his apparent political immaturity, British have respect for the American people i certainly do, i very much like America, maybe Mr Obama should listen to his people once in a while, as from what i can tell many of you are not happy. All this needs is a suitable apology, and for Obama to swallow some pride and start showing some respect to his allies and everything will be back to normal, sooner rather than later,or he could leave America with very few friends.

(if this sounds really anti-American is was not my intention, its meant to be anti Obama administration, haha , and im glad to see that Americans still appreciate our nations friendship, we can sometimes lose sight of that in this political storm )

Regards JTR~~

dont worry, the special relationship will always exist between the people of our nations, in time Obama will come to appreciate that.
