I find it ironic that if you look at the available WWI war games, they primarily naval. The war itself was fought almost entirely fought on land. In fact, the only WWI game I have found dealing with the ground war is a board game called Guns of August (by Avalon Hill).

World War One (Decision game), The great World War (Comand magazine), 1914 (Command magazine), 1918 (Comand magazine), When Eagles fight (Command magazine), Over the top (S&T), Clash of Giant (GMT), Drive on Paris (The Gamers), The Grand illusion (GMT) and many more...

...and many more: 1914. James Dunnigans very first WWI title published back in 1969. To the Green Fields Beyond. First tank action at Cambrai Soldiers. Infantry combat scenarios, vaguely like Squad Leader Tannenberg ......
