Subject: Valentine Fleming Eulogy by W. Churchhill
scooterfan    1/5/2008 7:05:54 AM
The father of Ian Fleming (author of the James Bond books and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), died in France 1917. I have a Bio of I. Fleming at home in Maine, but can't read it here in Mongolia. I've searched the web, but have been unable to find a transcript of W. Churchill's Eulogy to Major V. Fleming. First published in the 'Times, the Eulogy sums up, for me, the sacrifice of the western front during WW1. Anyone have a link to the piece or remember a big piece of it. my recollection is; "....the bright lights are being extinguished all over Europe..." I know I am way off, but the original as reprinted in a bio touched me at the time as little else I have read in the eulogy catagory.
