Subject: Is China the new Soviet Union
metalfan182    8/24/2007 3:42:52 PM
I think that the Chinese military is the new threat to the USA just as the Soviet Union was during the cold war.

Those cyber threat articles only serve to foster suspicion and distrust of China, thus slowly building a grounds for attacking China in some form or fashion.  Although not publicly, I would definatly call China an enemy.  China, Iran and Russia are allying with the democratic revolutionaries of South America, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, etc...  Russia in particle has a hugely popular anti-US media campaign, RT News.  This media campaign, unlike the US's, has the advantage of gaining support by telling the truth.  While US/western interests may counter those of China, Russia, and others, fighting those (the US's) interests will lead to a more sustainable, peaceful world if successful.

I personally prefer Russia's method of "truth-warfare" as opposed to our trillion dollar war-machine.

Anything that comes from a government source has to be remembered that all governments have agenda's. To many believe whatever their government say. In some forums you see people say well our government said we shot down 200 aircraft and it turns out the other side only had 125 aircraft total but you can't tell them that because they believe whatever they are told. Rarely does one side have a monopoly on the truth. Besides the best lies have a great amount of truth in them. From the US point of view China is not yet the Soviet Union, but i am not so sure if the countries around China feel that way. Everyone talks about the US being the worlds policeman, the thing they don't see is that, what we are trying to do is keep a lid on the world in a way. Because we hope that we can prevent a huge war that will draw us in. Everyone looks at the dead and wounded from our 2 wars and thinks that's bad, they have no Idea what a REAL war's dead and wounded would be.

This is a real war.  I agree with most of what you've said, but not this.  We are at a point where admitting to another war would be devastating to our political system.  People are still dangerous to their governments.  The afpak and iraq wars are just subsets of a bigger broader war.  Some other subsets are called conflicts, some are officially denied according to the war powers act and some are supposedly humanitarian..yea right, but this can all be viewed as one, bigger war.

Also, given to current state of affairs we're in, I tend to side with Bush when he said that "the best way to revitalize an economy is through war".  I completely disagree, but at the same time I don't think we are trying to prevent war.

Well neither of the 2 wars that we are fighting according to our president are wars to prevent wars. One is in response to a attack, and the other tinkering around to see if we can make democracy. I see China one day pushing hard on the South China sea and then we will see. They can not afford to have a dip in jobs like we have or their government may well be overthrown. They know that and will do what they have to prevent it. Their is also more danger to Russia than us to be honest IMO. What if in 20 years most of the people in east Russia are Chinese. You have a vote for independence and then what?

Its almost sounds as if you are afraid of Chinese way of life more than China itself.

And isn't any sentance beginning with the words "According to the president" bound to contain an untruth or mistruth or anything along those lines?  If we took the president at his word we wouldn't be questioning the 9/11 report, we would think the patriot act violates our rights as citizens, we would be even more scared of "terror", and chances are we wouldn't even remember that only a few months ago he announced to the entire nation his withdrawal from Afghanistan.  And heck..if we took the presidents words as truth then Saddam=Osama.  No the president's word means nothing.  This is one massive war, like it or not.  War in the far east, war in the middle east, war in latin america, one big war to rule them all.
