bob,

I would have thought part of selection was chatting up women in clubs.  Has 22 SAS lowered it's standards?  Is it possible that a duffer with no good pick up lines can now be badged?  Say it isn't so!

i'm afraid so longrifle, the standards have slipped and many a type as you described has earned the sword. it's one of the reasons i left. however, the shakies have made it a part of their SC3 course. luckily the regiment has kept the tradition of assigning each man a pub where he must be the established drunk and let all customers know that it was he that appeared on the front balcony at the embassy [just to keep the reputation alive]. this tradition has actually fit in well with nationwide laws in england that state every pub MUST have a regular drunk who is a former member of UK spec forces.

who? i understood the penguins from that movie [i had to sit through it three times in a row with the grandkids] but who's this hedgehog fella?

A wonderful blue mascot from the days of the Sega Genesis.  So secretive that even members of 22 SAS don't know about him.  Throw "sonic team" into a google image search and you will get the picture... pardon the pun.

Three times?  Sounds like being a grandparent has a selection process all its own.  Which pub were you assigned to btw?  Or is that still hush-hush?

The SAS have shinier dress boots, whilst Delta Force look better when their uniforms are starched.

US Army just looks shabby so we don't like to talk about our poorer bretheren.

90% of the SAS selection process is purely boot polishing!!!!  Im sure Bob will confirm in due course.

sorry for the delay arty, i'm afraid the selection has changed. it was 90% but the remainding 10% just wasn't enough for lacing practice. thus as it now stands... 85% polishing 15% tying laces.

Ahhh, very interesting.  I guess the standards in the main feeder units just aint what they used to be.  Im looking at YOU parachute regiment!!!!

But Bob, can you image the state the SAS would be in if regular Brit forces went the route of our US cousins and adopted suade desert boots across the board!!!!!!  Without that fundamental polishing skill how can we hope to combat global jihad, never mind the masses of well drilled extremely shiny booted chinese infantry!!!!
The Horror!!!!  Im going to have to go for a lie down now!!!!

I think that is a fundamental issue in todays modern professional western military machine. Just another skillset lost with the introduction of swanky polish-free boots. How are we meant to fight the hordes when our 18 yr old privates are unable to polish their dress shoes?

It is an outrage I tell you!!!
