Subject: 509th Airborne, Vicenza Italy

Has anyone here served in the 509th/Nickle "0" Nasty? back in the 1980's?

I arrived Feb 1982 at the Redeye section.   I was with Waldvogel and Hyde and Roberts and King  and Geldres.  I saw Waldvogel in 1987 he was not doing so good back then he was in Wisconsin.  since then I have not been able to contact him.  I hope you and yours are doing well.  I am in San Antonio and and just getting older :).  [email protected]

Actually, the unit at Rhine Caserne was the 11th QM CO. which consisted entirely of riggers of which I was part of and was part of the initial 2 dozen people sent to Italy to set up shop in Bosco Monteco west of Vicenza to be airborne ready when the rest of the 1/509 and 2/509 came to Vicenza from Mainz which was directly across the river from Rhine Caserne. Not that it really matters any more!

I was in D Btry 1/509 from 1976 to 1978. I was known as stickman. They were some great times. I met my Italian girlfriend only about a month after getting there. Met her in Johnnys bar. WOW GREAT TIMES!!!!!
