The medics I remember were Doc Dano, and then there was the one guy whose name escapes me at the moment, an Italian name, mouthy guy. And then there was the Duck Pond, the sisters, Rosie, Leala and the other one ... and Dana whatshername. Her Dad was the post AG.  It was definitely a good duty station - I enjoyed the tour over there.

To all the awesome men who served in the '09 in the mid-seventies up to '79, give me a shout.  I was a medic assigned to HHC.  Capps is my name and would love to hear from anybody.

Prisoner83    A hard time in Vicenza   4/14/2011 9:30:15 AM
Hi,
I`ve been in Vicenza in May 83 with 60 other German Airbornes from Merzig, Lebach and Saarlouis /Germany.
Unfortunately my trip to Italy was finished 7 weeks later than I expected. After we finished our official jump programm, we had enough time to make party downtown Vicenza. So it happened, that I and two Americans went into the House of 100 beers and were ambushed from several Italians. It was a hard fight !! In that night one of my American camerades went back to that pub and throw a grenade simulator into the bar room.
The other American and I, we didn`t know anything about that. So it happened that we came back to post at the next morning and were arrested from the MP. In the afternoon the Italian Carabinieri brought us to Casa Cirdondariole (District Jail) and there we had to stay for another 51 days. They called us terrorists. On the one hand funny, but more than 7 weeks in an Italian jail, not so funny.
They released us (liberta provisoria) and we got a verdict of not guilty on court.
That was not funny !!
My certificate for the American wings was signed from Thomas Needham, but I still can`t remember with which company I absolved my basic training.
Maybe there is somebody who remembers that story ??

ALL THE WAY

Herman, I think that happened to you with Bravo Company, seems like it was Dave Neeley that threw the artillery simulator - he got in trouble for it too. He was a wild man.  Yes, Thomas J. "Nuke'm" Needham as our Battalion Commander at the time. I remember when we did the swap with the Germans and a lot of us went to your school (me included) while a lot of you came to Italy for our jump school.  I am proud to have received my German wings - I think of all of them I received over the years including the Israeli and Belgic wings, the German wings are my favorite foreign wings and the ones I chose to wear on my greens and blues.

Hey Wolfhead,

Good to hear from you too! Not much going on here in Louisiana. Florie and I still hear from Mac every now & then. We also call JJ & Jenny from time to time. If you haven't been told - Charlie Filban is gone - cancer got him.
I haven't heard from anyone else. Florie & I have 5 grand babies now with another one standing in the door waiting to make the big jump into life sometime in June. Let me know how things are going.

Stay Safe - Doc

No I'm not that Capps.  There was a guy there by that same name who died on a jump in 1976 prior to my arrival in Sept. of that year.  I was assigned to HHC as a medic in 1st platoon.
