Subject: Bravo two zero

Whatsup guys? What is the story on bravo two zero? I haven't read the book, but everything I read seems to be either hotly contested or unsure. I mean, the SAS Team Leader Mcnab seem to have either lied on numerous occasions, "stretched" the truth, gotten confused, or other members of the team are lying. Example: He claims to have covered 12km to get to a dry wadi, but other accounts say the team only went 2km. Also, it doesn't seem normal for a SOF team, especially of the SAS' caliber, to be captured. Did they surrender? I just can't see that. That would be a disgrace to the SAS wouldn't it? Now, don't take me as badmouthing the SAS Team, because I obviously am in no position to do that. I'm just a teenager, and those guys are obviously some of the best SOF guys on the planet, but something just doesn't add up to me. I don't really know or understand the story.

Wow, sorry, I know this is my 4th post in a row. I think I broke a personal record .

Anyway, on this THIS  myspace page is a bunch of guys around my age who constantly mention eventually being a SEAL and going through BUD/S, etc (one 17, my age, is even calling himself "Future SEAL of America). These guys are gonna be in for a rude awakening when they phase up and realize that the Instructors have already checked their myspace pages and found all the talk of "Navy SEALs" and "BUD/S" on there. They are just putting that much more pressure and calling that much more attention on themselves. The first Phase instructors are gonna have a field day with "Future SEAL of America", I guarantee it.

Yep HS is right, then there are guys like Ben Thomas, some people might recognise him around some forums, goes by the name "mookie specoli"..."former SEAL"....old Ben likes pulling that one, whats sad though is, he was actually in a SEAL team and was "asked" to leave before he got his budweiser badge...he made it through BUD/S ect...but let's just say he didn't work well with others, now he is plying his trade as a PMC in Iraq, and as an action man doing courses in Hollywood for movies......clown, he also has a myspacepage

This guy gets around. I've heard of him, he isn't a SEAL and shouldn't be advertising being a SEAL. He made it through the pipeline, but when you steal equipment and such and get asked to leave before you get your budweiser, you aren't a "SEAL".

From what I have heard, he is a big shit talker aswell. Pretty much makes it obvious on some forums that he will "Kick your ass" if you try to call him out. Oh well. How those types make it through the Pipeline I'll never know.

If you like that guy, google "Stan Goff."  Pure jacka$$ of the old-school dumb Marxist variety whose resume (sadly legit, as I understand it, though I'd like to find out he's a fake) includes stints in one of the Ranger batts, SF, and Delta back when it was Delta.

No Stan Goff is the real deal on everything, he had quite the career, I may not agree with his politics, but those are personel beliefs, and he can have them if he wishes

Thats usually how you spot a phoney, the phoney is telling everyone he is ex-SOF, whereas the true SOF guy never says a word about it.

does that make me a phoney GOP

No one in the military is very fond of Stan Goff. But an outstanding soldier he most certainly was.

Definitely not Bob, my bad if it came across like that. You definitely seem to be the real deal and I have no doubts about you whatsoever. I was just saying typically most SOF guys won't tell them your history in a public setting, but most of the posers will.
Horse, I haven't been able to google him yet (horrible internet connection here on vacation, barely able to get on here for long), but even if he is real he sounds like a complete idiot.

don't worry kid, just seeing if i could make you nervous. i am not concerned about whether or not people believe for i in the end know what happened in my life and i did not follow my career choice simply to impress others. that said i'm also not with the conspearies bunch that think the PIRA's are going to blow up their house and family if they atall mention they're ex-SF... (they'd have a job anyway, i spend most of my time in the land of Ehran aka canuck country) my personal view is that to many ex SF take the animosity thing way too far after leaving their respective service, but what do i know?

I don't think I know anyone who knew him personally while he was in uniform (may be wrong about that towards the top end of my chain of command) but I do know some people who would as soon shoot him in the face as shake his hand due to his published claims that US SOF units are racist organizations.  Before my time, but this apparently kicked off some frivolous Congressional interest/investigation with a lot of money spent looking for a fire to go with Goff's claims of smoke.  (And then even more money spent, when they did not find the fire, commissioning a multimillion dollar study to understand why there were not more minorities in SOF units.)

Haha, good call. Yeah, the whole "I can't tell you I'm ex-SF" thing may be blown way out of propertion, but it's probably not something you'd go around telling everyone for no reason either (you know all this much better than I do, so not trying to sound like I'm preaching at anyone or anything).
What do you mean the "Animosity" thing? Do you mean as far as the "SF rules, SEALs suck" kind of thing, or what? Didn't really understand that.

Mate, don't waste your time on Bravo Two Zero. I bought it and then went out and bought Eye Of The Storm. Wish I had bought that first as I would never have then bought B2Z.

I recommend:

Ratcliffe, Peter. DCM. 2000. Eye Of The Storm. HarperCollins Publishers. ISBN 0732268613

He was the SAS RSM during the Ryan period and this book is great in that it covers Ratcliffe's entire SAS service.
