What do you mean by "Tier 1" territory?

If that means just a few miles over their border then maybe... but even then I seriously doubt it. What could possibly be gained from that? Not much, and the consequences of them being caught are sooooooooo great that it's enormously risky.

I'm almost positive Iran is watching for exactly this sort of thing and are ready to snatch a few Americans for capture and use as pawns ... to be used as hostages in the geo-political blackmail game against the western world.... or any other scenario you can possibly imagine. All of them bad.

Believe me, even though any spec ops operating in Iran would have no insignia identifying themselves as Americans.... they'd still be shown on TV as "Americans"... what a huge political fiasco that would cause here, i can hear them now:
"omg Bush is expanding the war!"
"this is just like vietnam in 1968 we're gunna invade Cambodia!"
"the evil Americans are murdering innocent Iranians, they're murderers!"

The ONLY reason, the ONLY plausable I scenario I forsee us inserting special force units inside Iran would be to:
-Stealthily infiltrate Iranian nuclear sites, secure them and destroy them from within. This sounds insane, I know... but it's probably do-able as long as said site(s) are located way out into the middle of no-where where it can't be reinforced for hours.

I was thinking more along the lines of say CAG/DEVGRU/SAS/SASR/JTF2/GROM/name tier 1 unit going several miles inside the Iranian border, doing recon on Iranian backed terrorists, etc. I'm not really referring to the whole nuclear deal, that would be extremely, extremely risky (for example, I read about an SAS unit sent inside of Nigeria I believe because they were tied to the Iraqi WMD program in some way, but the facility they were doing recon on was extremely heavily guarded and they were caught and sent back to the UK).
