Subject: Navy SEALs vs CAG vs SF vs Devgru vs AFSOC vs SAS vs SBS vs GSG9 vs GIGN
GOP    5/18/2006 12:08:29 AM
Who wins??? I go with NAVY SEALS! Alright, time to end all of this SOF vs SOF garbage. Basic rules: Rule 1: SOF combat divers cannot be compared with SOF CT, etc. Statements such as Navy SEALs vs SAS are impossible to compare. You must at least be comparing similar units to have a true comparison in training. Rule 2: SOF units are made up of people, which are all different and have different skill levels. SOF units are impossible to compare because each small team in a particular unit has different people which make up that small team. If we follow rule 1, and compare SOF CT Teams, then CAG may have a better small team than the SAS...and vice versa. It all varies when dealing with people. Rule 3: It is impossible for people out of the loop (ie: Civilians like me, Active or former regular military, etc) to compare current SOF units without relying on both old information, possible biased information, or just plain wrong information. Rule 4: Post like "Navy SEALs vs British SAS" will NEVER yield any conclusive evidence and will NEVER yield anything productive. Rule 5: NEVER COMPARE SOF UNITS! BOTTOM LINE. ---------------------------------------------

It's quite upsetting really, now that the x-mas hol's are done, the thread will die from malnurishment of more posts .
Alas, maybe it will be revived from the bottom of the list when the next school holidays begin.
Until that time gentlemen...

having come across these postings i am amazed , and felt as an ex Brit SF radio op i wanted to say some things.

I have spent time in Coronado training with Team One , and was there when a training course was running. I have the utmost respect for the SEAL team guys.
Anyone who has had any experience of water ops , they will know its really hard going. Personally i would prefer to be in  desert / mountain / arctic type operations. It is what i was better at. Although i can do maritime met, nav etc i just preferred being land based.

Anyhow all US/Brit SF units are good at what they do, the US and Brit SF units train together all the time, trading skills and techniques. I have been on training exercises with both Seal and Delta teams, and furthering this GSG9 came to the Uk to train when i was on the CT team. To learn CT entry techniques etc.

I have never got this cap badge rivalry thing. When the two way range is going , the last thing that your thinking about is what cap badge the guy next to you wears.

I dont think that DEVGRU should be on their also. Cuz when you say SEALs youre saying alot. DEVGRU is an even more ELITE SEAL team that specializes in CT ops. the SEALs have many specialized units. some are classified and some arent.  a list of a few are MOB-6, SEAL Team 1, SEAL Team 2, SEAL Team 3, SEAL Team 4, SEAL Team 5,  SEAL Team 6(DEVGRU), SEAL Team 7, SEAL Team 8, SDV(SEAL Delivery Vehicle.)1, SDV 2, The Notorios "Red Cells"
And their are probobly more. there just so "secret" noone knows about them but Operators.

Bro, I was way out of my lane when I wrote this. You are equally out of your lane with this statement.
MOB-6 - original name for DEVGRU.
Red Cell - Disbanded.

There are more secret units out there (speaking of US side), but probably not much more 'ninja' than DEVGRU or CAG.

I've learned that I honestly know very little about this stuff, but I used to spout off like I was an expert because I had seen some TV shows or read some books. I honestly think we should both probably quit talking about things we know so little about (real world experience I mean).

I wouldn't worry about it too much GOP, I think school gets out for a lot of people this week.  Hey who knows, maybe we will get some more "NAVY SEALS VS SAS" action and Bob-o will be able to shoot down some posers!

Most of the spec ops community in the US and our allies train and even operate together. The SEALs have an exchange with the Australian SASR, Royal Marine Commando SBS, Kampfschwimmers, Commando Hubert. DEVGRU has Marines, Army and Air Force operators attached. DELTA and DEVGRU have operated together. Comparing is stupid. I was a SEAL 1970-1973 Vietnam Vet. I believe that all of the units have their specialties but they are all elite and do their jobs at 110% all of the time. I would say the most overated SF group was the Russian Spetnaz.

Oh, you were a SEAL eh?
What class did you graduate from?
Who was your swim buddy?

I meet a SEAL poser every week, so I have good reason to be suspicious of your claims.

I hate SEAL phonies.

how phuqueing priceless.  this is as opposed to kids who come in here, read a few books, scrape a few internet sites and pretend that they know the job.

universally, we hate tossers and pretenders.  I suggest that you look at the quality of your responses and stop throwing stones - at least not until you remove every glass pane in your own house.

denigrating other special forces, or even attempting to rank special force operators from other countries is the true tell tale sign of a kid on a mission.

poser indeed
