Wow this thread has been very, very interesting reading to say the least. It took me awhile to read through the whole thing. There has been a lot of idiots (or wrong information), some pretty funny things, and some really good points! I think a lot of the arguments have deviated from the thread topic but I just wanted to throw my hat in the mix as taboo as that may be.
Although it is arguable whether or not you can compare the two and for plenty of reasons you can and for plenty reasons you can't but it has been done. Before I go into who is or isn't better the home of a Navy SEAL is the water and I don't care who you are you come into my house and you wont be able to touch me. Now the SAS are legendary and by legendary I mean bayonet his enemy in the chest pull his heart and take a bite out of it. (sound false huh?true story I've seen the video). Regardless the ranking goes like this undisputed and if anybody has a reason to be bias it's myself but I?m just being honest.
1st-SAS
2nd-SEALS
3rd-is VERY very arguable. I do agree with the fact that Aussie is definitely close but in my personal opinion the Israeli special forces, are more then impressive. Naturally they should be there since the history of war involving their country outdates the UK and US put together. But that?s not what this thread is about.
First and second places are set in stone. There is not a JSOC GROUP in the US or military UNIT in the UK, Europe, the rest of the world that are more skilled. I would love to get detailed and throw out numbers and confuse the average reader with military jargon but the truth is this...You can't isolate SEALS to water nor can you do the same with the SAS to the desert. Regardless what their specialty is or was, training is far more extensive and encompasses a much broader variety then just that.
After reading some other comments here I definitely want to address a couple things as off subject as they may be. Although stupidity should not be dignified with a response ignorance is a complete different thing.
1st. Delta (SFOD-D) was molded after the SAS. There is a ton of internet space don?t waste any of it embarassing yourself with negative nonesense about DELTA.
2nd. I want to sum this up as easily as possible...The strongest ARMY based on numbers isn't American or British. It's Chinese and that is based purely on numbers. BUT you are only as good as your counter parts (air force and navy) in a combined effort. Conventional warfare is not the same as it once was where 2 sides faced off on a battle field, or in jungle or desert and caught bullets. In that scenario numbers were just as or almost as important as strategy. Now, (excluding urban warfare) larger countries do as much as they can from safety and distance to save lives and that is where technology is the arms race winner. You may have more people and more bullets then anybody else but if you don't have the necessary military support the strength of your army is garbage. So for what it's worth (man to man) China has the greater army.
3rd. Overall SAS are ranked 1st BUT DEVGRU under the Clinton administration were monsters and with an unconfirmed budget 1 year rumored to be more then that of the entire marine corps they should be. Their gold team was the baddest (SHUT YO MOUTH) unit out of SAS and SEALS and any special forces team out there.
