Subject: Pros and cons of US special forces

DELTA- the best counter terrism unit that the US has. there is no doubt about that. it is soley trained for that

SEALS- trained for a variety of covert operations. they use the sea as an escape(advantage). many people will stay away from the sea and see it as a wall but not the SEALS.
Also SEAL team 6 is an effective CT unit.

Rangers-I do not see Rangers as a SF. They are trained more than regular infantry, but they are not specialized to be a SF

read my thread on "how to BEAT Al Qaeda" thats how we have to deal with stateless groups. DELTA SEALS and Rangers...bravo bravo all the luck to em. The problem is that we think we can win a conventional war and control the ppl with Special Forces. For example the Generals like Shinsekki knew we needed at least 300,000 and comfortably 500,000 men to occupy Iraq. The politicians spent the 90's busting their nuts over everything they heard about Special Forces. The outcome was in the middle which is too heavy to move around quickly and not enough men to control the place. Also, in Afghanistan we had a scenario which a conventional military solution needed to be applied, Torah Borah where 1000 Al Qaeda and Taliban fighters trying to escape over the border into Pakistan. The 10th mountain division was in Tajikistan were suited up and rdy to go with "battle plans" and everything and then the tools in The White House rely on war lords who were (no exaggeration) fighting us 3 weeks before.
