The Tigers will dramatically increase our ability to provide CAS and may take over a lot of the role from fixed-wing assets, but I don't think they will be able to make those assets completely unnecessary. This is especially the case given that CAS is fairly closely aligned with battlelfield interdiction, which fixed wings can do far more safely and effectively than a helecopter. I would personally like to see our CAS force go V/STOL, or at least STOL/rough field capable, so that we can base the force closer to the action. The Jag's would have been able to do that to an extent, but given all the other issues with them I don't think it is practical now.
