Er... isn't the "flying Kookaburra with the bomb in it's claws" the insignia of the F-111C 1 & 6 sqn? Or do they extend that to the Hornets as well?

I've seen 3 sqn Hornets with an "Eagle and a flying bomb" (90th Anniversary duco-job), but not the Kooka.

BJ64:)

F-111 Squadron and OCU converting to Super Hornet Squadron and OCU. ;)

So? The flying Kooka with the yellow lightning-flash *belong* to the F-111 sqn.

That's where they started, and that's where they should stay IMHO.

Sorry, but this team don't change it's colours...

Same squadrons though, they are just converting to a new aircraft type, nothing they have not done before and will not do again in the future.

In a way, I find that a kind of pity. I like the idea of one 'Mascot' belonging to one era/aircraft.

In case you can't tell, I'm hooked on F-111's, and it will be sad to see them retired. I'm not sure the Kooka and the Lightning Bolt will carry the same meaning for me. It's a bit like seeing the Jolly Roger on a Hornet instead of an F-14 (another fav plane of mine).

Don't get me wrong, I love your Hornets too - seeing them at Grand Prix brings back special memories...

It would be nice if they allowed the public to purchase the F-111 crew ejection modules, I wouldn't mind having one in my rec room...

Uhuh... go the whole-hog (tee-hee) and whack one of those in your lounge-room.

Now THAT would be a *great* conversation piece...
