Very pretty!

Do we get a set of steakknives with it or only Coke and Fries?

Pitty the Kookaburra is low-viz and not bright yellow. Even the USN has gone back to bright colours.

Nope, all their SHornets are the same colour, we paint to the same colour as the USN run.  It's not cost effective to break the line (we learnt that early with the Unimogs as well)

besides, they haven't done dark grey for years and light (haze) is based on likely ops. (same as the rest of the fleet)  the paint colour is actually based on issues wave length management - not on how it looks.

News to me, its not what the RAAF BACC people call it and they're the ones involved with bringing it in....

Geeez.......

I was talking about the Unit insignia of 1SQN. Traditionally a Kookaburra diving with a bomb in its claws, superimposed on a yellow maltese cross. They also use a yellow lightning bolt, whereas 6SQN's is blue.

As for the USN comment, I was refering to the modern adoption of bringing back gawdy unit markings. Have a look at Diamondbacks to see all the red on the spine/fins of their SBugs.

I wasn't talking about painting the grey bits that cover the rest of the jet.

Actully, if we wanna be anal about it, the official colours for the grey bits are...

FS 36320 Dark Compass Ghost Grey TPS. RGB Hex Code 818B8D.

and

FS 36375 Light Compass Ghost Grey TPS. RGB Hex Code 9598A1.

none of the Shornets will be the baseline colour of the Pig Gumbys.  They're all baseline light grey.

So what are they calling the darker shade of grey in the photo you provided???

My understanding is that USN official markings are FS 36320 over FS 36375.

In the pic the darker shade ( FS 36320) comes down to BORT number 201 and the LErX.

I thought the F-111 was FS 36118 (414A53) Medium Gunship Grey.

Curious.

thats light grey.  the gumbys are dark grey

we're building the same as USN spec, so if they paint them pink for that run, then we get pink

I'm talking about frame colour - as in the main colour of the platform.

Well, I have just revisited my guide on Federal Standard 595 Paint Specs and I see that "Light Grey" is FS 36373. The USN info I have says that this is not listed for the SH or legacy Bugs alike.

So am I. There are two shades to all legacy Hornets and Super Hornets, operated by all users.

I've also not seen the F-111 listed with "dark grey". Would be interested to see a source.

well, you don't have to do any gamma correction to see that the gumbys are a very different grey to the Shornet
we use light grey because it is a wavelength issue for the naked eye at "nn" (classified) thousand feet..
