Subject: war gaming help needed

I am new to computer war gaming. I am interested in purchasing a game that will introduce me to the myriad of choices at the command level. I am concerned about being overwhelmed. What is a good computer starting game that will introduce me to this genre. Thanks in advance for your help.

as a longtime gamer, both board and computer, i'd recommend Talonsoft's "The Operational Art of War: A Century of Warfare" (TOAW-CW) edition. you can probably find it on one of the online game sites for about $30 or less. you will need to find a site which has all the patches for it (there are about 4, i think), and download those. check the Wargamer online site. TOAW-CW is a wrap-up of all the prior TOAW versions into one, and has about 30 scenarios, from WWI to future wars. it has a pretty user-friendly scenario editor so that you can create your own scenarios. plus, there are a lot of scenarios created by others on the Wargamer scenario depot site. TOAW's graphics are very good, play is pretty easy, and if you think that a scenario is not accurate, you can make a copy of the scenario and go in and edit the units, strengths and/or map. good luck. dave gruenbaum
