Subject: Israel will never overtly attack Iran

Principaly because Iran can mine the gulf where 40% of the worlds oil passes thru. People would be very upset due to supply disruptions and oil prices. It would be a PR fiasco for Israel.

It certainly sounds reasonable to state that Iranian nukes would never be used and thus are no military threat to Israel.

Prove it.

Moreover, prove it within the following context:  Both sides use of WMD in WWI; US use of atomic weapons twice in WWII; attempted genocide of Jewish people in WWII, nothing significant done to interfere with the Holocaust by the allies; world seemingly acceptable to notion of entire Arab world destroying Israel at it's creation; Arab world leaders sided with Nazi Germany during WWII;  stability of current Iranian regime; notion that Iran would never pass on nuclear knowledge, material, or weapons to any nation or non state actor that would use them against Israel.

It's really not difficult to make a case that most of the world does not care about Jews or who kills them.  Thus it's not unreasonable, given history, for Israel to only trust itself for it's own security.  Asking Israel to trust Iran's intentions is ridiculous given Iran's stated policy is the destruction of the state of Israel and that they support this policy through the direct support of Hamas and Hezzbolah and other actors.

Israel has been saying since 2003 that if the West does not prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons that they will act.  Nobody believed China clearly laying out what would trigger their intervention in Korea either.  Sometimes nations that clearly spell out their policies need to be believed as they are in fact deadly serious.

It doesn't matter what Israel's position appears to be to an outsider.  It doesn't matter if the average non Israeli thinks Iran would never really use nukes against Israel.  It only matters what they think.  Israel has attacked first in 1956 with France and the UK, Israel struck first in 1967, attacked Iraq in 1981, invaded Lebanon in 1982, and conducted numerous other strikes including the PLO in Tunisia in 1985 and a Syrian nuclear facility in 2007.  Exactly why do so many constantly question the resolve of a nation that has some reason to believe it's survival is at stake and who clearly demonstrate the will to strike?

As for Iran mining the Gulf I'm sure they will do a lot more than that in response.  However, the last time they did that the US destroyed the Iranian navy in one day with Operation Praying Mantis.   Moreover, this Iranian action was within the context of it's ongoing war with Iraq and it's certainly perfectly acceptable to fight a nation that invades you.  It's less than acceptable to mine international waters and even less acceptable when the western world can not afford those waters mined.

Finally one trusts a theocratic police state at one's peril.  Islamic fundamentalism is not a force for good in the world that is deserving of trust.  Trusting the current Iranian regime is simply idiotic and at the very least expecting Israel to do so is not rational.

How is it reasonable? I know the answer, but I know you don't!How did it,come out of your mouth?

OK, I've sent in a petition to have Bluewings removed from the forum for aggravated trolling (flames, unsubstantiated statements and outright falsities reducing the quality of the board for subsequent years). Regardless of whether you find him entertaining or not I encourage you to a great degree to join this measure.

I was actually starting to see reasonable conversations about the Rafale and other topics on French matters until he reappeared.
