He is a reliable member of the let the Secial Forces do it all, all the time, by them selves caucuse. 

 

He presents his concerns in militairy terms but never mentions related details like half his party are pulling their hair out over their inability to spike W's war.  What you don't say speaks volumes. An exampail of this is his claim that the surge was unexceptable because not all the involved units were equiped with stryker vehicals.  Letting the fact that some componets of the force were more optomised for the mission than others be evedence that using any aditionsl forces was pointless.

The question about the public option is not how it will be rolled out slow enough for people to not fight agaisnt it too hard.  The question is what will the public to option ratio be.  Will it be a individual choice or will it be a place the goverment choses to stick people who are inconvieant elsewhere. 

 

Health reform hub bub has opened room for some interesting things to get some oxegen.  This was not O intention but it was his effect.  Health insurance may in fact be interstate trade and regulated at the federal level.  Then you can open state borders to insurance competition because eacch state can write local rules that form barreors to entry of compeating insurance firms.  The employer role of paying for care/insurance dose not neseetae that they pick the provider-so consumers of care can pick the providers and insurers that help them.  The prefered payer arangements where the cost of your treatment depends on which insurance company is paying can be determined to be price fixing/bid rigging and ended opening competion based on what you do for the paitent and not favors you do under the table for hospital admins.

Maybe they will talk more after national health passes.  The bill that crashed under Reeds comand was a ploy to take a big chunk of fed spending on doctors and move it out of the main bill.  Like my wife telling me she payed cash for a new sofa but not telling me she put the heating bill for two mounths on the master card to organize the cash for the sofa.  O wants a payed for bill and Reed wants a bill big enough to hold down suport from the left wing.  Who knew sausage was so hard to make.  Reed may also be hoping for big "union suport" in his re-election bid and/or a future job in the private sector.  That colors what he takes to O.  Mary Landrews and Ben Nelson have different interests but if we all walk the plank together it woun't be so scarry.

My hypothicis is that W won his wars and his elections off the backs of the same people.  If you use service in a war zone rather than in a combat unit the coralation would weaken just a little.  (I skiped all the math and reserch stuff.  This is jurnalism and not sience. In war and counter-insurgency war even more psycology is key.  The ANA needs to belive that they can win before they have a chance to win.  There are ways to build confedence.  They conflict with O's electorial imparitives.  Afgans chose to make sacrifices every day.  From the cartilige in their knees to the safty of their familys they trade away things that are presious to them for the mission.  They are being asked to build new tradition with out which they will fail.  O can help with his words and actions but he has other traditions to worry about.  Americans who see Dems as solft on communisim and crime have a tradition of voting for republicans and O must dismantal that tradition.  Teroists were communists proxies and not anti-terorism is anti-communisms proxie because some fool said that communism evaporated.  It just rebranded it's self.  It's the old royalism in new drag.  O needs to be enough of a fighter to dispell the image of Dems as weak but he can't lagetimise the the fight too much or he defeats his own purpuse and devides his own party.  This is why the war on Rush gets stronger passion than the overseas contingency operation against the "bad taliban."

O no longer has the momentum to reform education with out people asking why we took away their naborhood schools.  The slogans said it was for desegregation  but the central schools segregate the blacks right out of the college prep tracks.  Less separate but even more unequal.  The black kids have noticed.

 

And the O voters also are starting to notice that the wars didn't end.  If the war protests stoped but the wars didn't then were the war protests about something other than the war?   ???

 

If O wanted to control which GOP got miked up.  Rush yes.  Gingrich no.  Then NJ was a very big mike to give away.  Remember Witmans rebutal to Bill.

When we think about suport for the troops and civilians carring out national police I think that intelectual suport is one of the needs.  Education broadly consitered is another story.  I'm talking about a official intelecual frame work to hang their efforts on.  We would want it to be more than a cover story but if that's all the Comanders got then he hast to send it.  American foren policy needs an elevator pitch (2 mike explanation and request for help) that every educated American can repeat and which a futioning majority can belive in.  Put that on O's to do list.

Dems find false shelter in the NY 23 race.  It Cconservatives are so agresive that they are killing each other to get at the avalible Dems that not so good for dems.  Next time the conservatives house oporatioins are going to have an extreamly target rich envirment. 

 

The 1993 and 2005 patern is what the Dems don't want to talk about.  NY 23 is a good answer to a bad question for the Dems, something else to talk about.  They pretend they feel good about trading the Governorships of NJ and VA for a House seat.  In 03 and 05 the lose of NJ and VA went before the lose of the House majority.  The real battle ground now is canidate recruitment.  The GOP want posible strong canidates to see this as the year to go for it.  Dems want strong GOP prospects to fear right wing nuts to much to come forward.  Chris Mathews said that if unemploment stayed high the Dems could lose the House this time.  My question is weather the Dems lose more if they pass a national health law than they lost in 93 when they failed to pass one.  They are telling members that a passed law is needed for protection at the time of election. 

 

Cathlic Bishops call the bill  moeny laundering. Compelling people to act against their own concuse but passing the moeny through companys rather than the IRS so they can say no federal moeny goes to abortion.

 

 The Dems know moeny makes politics go round so they are sending moeny to their shock troops.  Women who get abortions tend to be uninsured or on parents insurance (which they don't want to use for privacy reasons).  If thease women get insurance in their own name they will reduce the number of discounted abortions.  Providers can raise price and plow the moeny into advacacy for Dems elections.  Same with protection of trial lawyers.

 

So the protection the bill is most likly to bring is the cash.  The voters who don't like the bill will be even more activated if it passes than if it fails.  The people who like it in the abstract find it to be to convoluted and watered down in reality. 

 

Pelosi relised 40 votes of members who would be hurt too much politicly if they suported to bill.  But they all voted for Pelosi with their organizational vote (to make her speeker).  What cover is it to vote agaisnt her bill after you voter her in as the person who got to write it.  She worked from the three committee bills but had a free hand to make choices in how they were reconciled.  Adding fine print as she went.  She will rewrite it all again for confrence committee but Reed will be in on the game then.

The new bank busness modle has more to do with you friendship with the banking committee than any other factor.  It is a effective merger of the top banks and the state.  Some people say it is the privatization of profit and the socilization of hte losses.  I say it's worce than that.  The cats who get to make the big (multi-million dollors) paydays are into the Goverment/Party to way a degenerate gambler is into the mob.  They can be "preswaded" to do party work with their own moeny as well as with the banks decision making.  Then the goverment not only promotes the big banks with implyed promise of bailout but they pester small banks who were not any part of the problem with regulations that force up their fixed costs- prompting them to raise prices or merge to cover lawyers fees.  The two bigges banks are more freddy and fanned up than freddy and fanny.  Only solution is to trust bust the banks like gang busters but the campaine donations are oh so sweet.
