Sarkozy (current leader of France) will no longer hold that office by the end of 2008.
He has a number of political enemies. He could be assasinated or just brought down over some scandal - personal or financial. Or his hot new model wife could just "wrestle" him to death.

My thinking is things are more likely to happen if they've happened before. No French premier has been assassinated in the modern era. Not only that, Sarkozy has gone out of his way to take specific key people from the Left of the political spectrum and given them jobs in his administration. The left, already in great disarray during the election, is now even more fractious. Apart from 'youths' from the Arab suburbs, I can't think of anybody who'd want to murder Sarko. And his protection is definitely good enough to defend him from all but the luckiest amateurs. Not only that, the French political system makes it very difficult to turf out a President except in the most extreme circumstances, like obvious criminal activity. I'm pretty confident that Sarko will get through his whole term. And indeed, be re-elected, as he's doing an excellent job...
