Subject: By accident or through rogue elements, Syria's military buildup will trigger hostilities with Israel
Mr.RoadWarrior    6/8/2007 10:30:22 PM
Syria is building up a considerable force along the Israeli border. It is possible that the forces on either the Israeli side or Syrian side make a mistake that is perceived as a provocation, leading to hostilities. Another scenario is that elements inside the Syrian armed forces stage a provocative act. I would assume this would be coordinated with pro-Syrian forces embedded in Lebanon today to force Israel into a multi-front conflict.

The Mugniyeh event (I think) qualifies on this one.... The volume of missiles now hitting Israel is over the top and there may be little Israel can do now other than a major military offensive, and I do mean major.  Giving Hamas and Hizbollah another nosebleed is not going to work.  Neither is an extensive groundwar with control.  I think this one's going to be quite ugly, with establishment of a large "kill zone" inside Gaza...
