India Pak and Iran just signed a deal on the gas pipeline, plus Israel lost the last war in Lebanon and considering Shia influence in Iraq though the reasons exist to terminate Irans nukes practicality will snag such forward attempts by US Israel however scary a small Iranian nuke program maybe.

I expect a declaration by Ahmednijabad that 3000 centrifuges have been installed at Nantaz on Jan 28, revolution anniversary I think.

Israel didn't lose anything. In fact, I think it's time that they did something more than fire back at those annoying prats from Hamas.

Israel LOST the war. Plain and simple. Unconfirmed reports say that the Bush admin was so alarmed they were concerned that the Iran assault was highly questionable if Israel could not even contain the Hezbullah. Hezbullah is back in force and re-armed. It has taught a lesson to Israel that even we cannot ignore. They can hit back. It directly affects our Iran strategy.

I take Israel at its word. They said they would do this if no one else stopped Iran. Whether or not Israel lost in Lebanon, or American politics appear to preclude it's involvement, America will organize an attack or force such conditions as to make conflict impossible to avoid in order to keep Israel from doing so and starting WWIII (or something very nearly like it). Its life and death for Israel, there's no one there that doesn't see it thusly. "Never again..."

I don't see the evidence, that, Israel lost the war! Not even, Israel could admit losing after their unbiased studies etc.

Israel lost the battle on points.  But the war goes on.

Hezbollah fought, retreated, and survived, and has managed to spin it into a propaganda victory.  But they had to use up a lot of their tricks to do it, and many of those tricks were only good for one battle.  They also lost control of much of southern Lebanon, embarrassed the UN peacekeepers into a higher state of effectiveness, and have made their Syrian and Iranian connections fairly obvious.

Israel lost in Lebanon, but they could afford it, so this may be a good thing for them in the long run.  Israel is no longer over confident, and now knows Hezbollah's bag of tricks.  The rule is that you learn 10x as much from a defeat as a victory.

First the new Israeli government made the classic mistake of believing airforce self-propaganda that it could go it alone.  Then when Plan 'A' failed had to scramble to implement a ground based invasion for Plan 'B' that fed their troops into a meatgrinder in drib's and drab's.  These mistakes will not be repeated (at least for the next couple of battles).

Next time around it will be VERY different.
