Subject: Unit Rotations?
jthomas    9/30/2005 10:49:02 AM
Is there any way to tell what the schedule for a unit's rotation to and from Iraq is? For example, I am enlisting in the 42nd Inf Div, 1/69 Inf. They are just back from Iraq. What are my chances of this unit being mobilized again?

Hey Jthomas, From what I hear no!!! that is the DEFSEC Rumsfeld said every 5 years for ARNG units to rotate. You might get into the mix in other ways like volunter for such duty. You might want to know that having a combat patch now is the only way to get anywhere in the army or USMC sorry Sincerely, Keith

I highly doubt your unit will be activated and then redeployed, but I could be wrong. In the ARNG, and perhaps the rest of the army, a soldier can only spend 18/24 mths in a combat theater every 5 years, so if the division just got back... What is your MOS? 11Bravo? My unit just got back (82nd Cav) and it won't be activated for awhile, hopefully.

I was with the 42nd during the deployment. When we gathered to deploy, there was a big push to fill the units to 110% with individuals from other NG units from around the country. They also filled the units by pulling IRR and active soldiers. Currently, a soldier in my unit is scheduled to fill another unit deploying even though our unit just came back last year. Your chances really depend on your OPTEMPO days. Those are days you have been deployied in a recent period of time. The soldier I mentioned has 0 OPTEMPO days since he didn't deploy with us.

18/24 months every 5 years??  hahahaha - where did you find that rule?  Even if it says that somewhere, I have no doubt that there is a MILPER message rescinding that rule.  Our military doesnt have the numbers to sustain 5 year stabilization.  Right now a Soldier is typically stabilized for 1 year after a deployment. But even that can be waived by the first 2-star in the chain of command.   Look at units in the XVIII ABN Corps like the 10th MTN - those guys are home a year, gone a year, home a year, gone a year. .. .
