Subject: Where is Land Warrior and other advanced weapons????????

Its been hard to get a clear picture of what is really happening in Iraq from any media source, which only want to talk about Terrorist attacks and hardly ever show any of the day to day combat that our soldiers are going through. The little information I have been able to get suggest that our troops are fighting an urban war with little if no new weapons and weapon technologies like the “Land Warrior” system to help them see through the fog of war. Communications and situational awareness are vital to any form of warfare. Even if the Land Warrior system is not 100% percent ready, any improvement on our troops situational awareness has to be better than none. Further, I think that our government needs to deploy UAV’s in far greater numbers over this Urban battle fields of Iraq and should have systems like C-130 gunship on constant patrol ready to lend air support to our troops. I have seen little evidence that our military leaders are using our technological superiority to anywhere near its potential in the Urban warfare arena that our troops in Iraq are currently fighting in and I think this situation needs to be corrected so that we can dominate the Urban battlefield landscape like we control all other battle fields landscapes.

Land Warrior II (Styker Interoperable) program was cancelled except for one battalion that will be issued to a Stryker brigade in Iraq. In its place the Army has decided to field something called Dismounted Battle Command System begining in 2007 or thereafter. The DBCS gives the dismounted soldier the same Situational Awareness as mounted soldiers via the Army's FBCB2 digital/voice communications network that proved so useful durng the liberation of Iraq in April 03. While it is not down to the individual soldier as with LWII, the DBCS gets something to the dismounted soldier quickly at less the cost. The DBCS is produced by General Dynamics C4 Systems.

I just noticed this thread is a bit stale, but if you are still lurking there is a decent update on the latest programs here: Future Combat Systems the budget is filled with pork spending but alot of this is getting into Defense Dept. purse for exciting new programs like FFW.
