The British did outflank Turkey in a way. It was just not at the Dardanelles. It was the Arab revolt, T.E. Lawrence and General Allenby. That was after the Turks tried and failed to take the Suez Canal which would have done the same thing in reverse I guess.

And I guess that it was not until after Dieppe in WWII that the Brits finally learned what had to be done to make an amphibious landing a success.

There were many successful amphibious assaults prior to WWI and WWII - and of course failures.  Dieppe was a strange incident led by a nutter who didn't talk to anyone else; Churchill noted it was useful as a demonstraation of what needed to be done for D Day.
