Communists Killed Haracleum
6/21/2012 8:05:33 PM
In the 1980's I learned that many of the souls killed in the AD 78 earthquake lived in the upscale city of Haracleum, adjacent to Pompei. They were refuges of the land grab by Communists in Northern Italy by the Craxi brothers, whose nominal decendents periodically foray into Italian domestic policies as Socialists. It is little wonder why the concept ideology or idea mongering is so feared by many in the polity. No bad idea likely ever goes away, rather it gets transformed and regugitated as new or as a panacea for later generations. Socialism works very well for about two years, by then the wealth of those who innovated, risked and worked is consumed and a firm lesson to avoid those activities is bred into the system. At that point the only class to resist is the criminal class which are capitalists at heart, though they very lazily try and appropriate it by force or by stealth depending on their set of tools.
Greeks get to live with the chaos of a system that encouraged indolance, allows tax cheats and stole from the EU as a whole. Their ultimate punishment may be living under the boot of an energetic Communist regime. Time will tell whether the current hodgepodge of generation Boomers will stave off the youth who yearn not to pay for the sins of their elders in enough time for a better model to emerge. Meanehile they will fare better in the EU then outside of it.
