I am the Fort Leavenworth based facilitator of the new online NIPRNet U.S. Army MilGaming Community of Practice (CoP) which covers officially sanctioned military wargames such as Virtual Battlespace 2 (VBS2) and the soon to be released VBS2 Lite.
Missions of the MilGaming Community of Practice:
1. Qualitatively improve U.S. military training and operations by encouraging and promoting usage of officially sanctioned military games such as VBS2 within the U.S. military.
2. Encourage development of and collaboration on add-ons, mods and scenarios to extend and enhance officially sanctioned military games such as VBS2.
3. Provide U.S. military users with a secure collaborative environment for the sharing and transfer of knowledge and experience regarding the use of officially sanctioned military games such as VBS2.
4. Provide peer driven professional and technical mentoring and help on usage and development for officially sanctioned military games such as VBS2.
The MilGaming CoP is a joint knowledge management project of BCKS, PEO STRI and TCM Gaming.
If you have an AKO/DKO account you are invited to participate in this official online community. Only those personnel who have an AKO/DKO account that allows access to FOUO level information can gain access to this community. If you don't know what an AKO/DKO account is you probably don't qualify for one.
I have been a grognard wargamer since 1970 and am retired U.S. Army. I also am currently working on scripting and scenario development for VBS2 in my own time as well as running the community.

I know there are a number of U.S. Military personnel on this site and invite you to help us make VBS2 and other officially sanctioned wargames useful training tools for U.S. Army Soldiers and USMC Marines.
BTW the U.S. Army will soon be releasing VBS2 Lite, as the British Army has already for their own version called JCOVES, and this software will be available free for download to anyone who wants a copy. If the current schedule holds this will be in March 2010. |
