Subject: Who are Russia's greatest allies that it can count on ?
vinuatlast    6/16/2004 3:16:04 AM
1.India 2.India 3.India Thats it..but an Indo-Russian collaboration is a force to recon with. Consider the manpower ,logistics and artillery of India combined with russian missiles and sophisticated technology and intelligence, No power can dislodge such an coallition. Indians and Russians in coming years would certainly dictate terms to the world...

Wait 1990s? Russia was a democracy then, I doubt America would fund islamic terrorism as opposed to islamic mujahedeen before the fall of the SU, and no way would it happen after.

Exactly.

Many of the comments made in this discussion have been absolutely ridiculous.

China poses no threat to Russia. Russia has become a useful economic ally and regional partner for China. Russia is also China's main supplier of arms. If a war was to erupt between the two regional powers, HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of Chinese people would die in the conflict as Russia would most likely use tactical nukes against Chinese targets. China's massive army would be decimated on the ground and it would resort to a nuclear tit-for-tat exchange. Hardly a winnable scenario for China.

Russia's main concern is instability in the Caucasus (Chechnya), Islamic extremism in Central Asia and also NATO expansion. However, Russia has a series of regional alliances with other former Soviet republics such as Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. It also has a strong military alliance with India and a growing relationship with Iran.

Also, as we've seen recently, Russia has increased its ties with France and Germany.

Hundreds of millions would not die from a tactical nuclear exchange.
I think the first post was one of the worst...

What sane person thinks Russia and India combined would be unbreakable?
One nation has a rapidly shrinking army and population, the other is still struggling at modern milgrade helicopters, fighters and carrier after decades of effort.

India may become a major power someday, when it finds inner courage and destroys or conquers and rehabilitates Pakistan and avenges the Hindu Kush (literally Hindu Slaughter) and 600,000,000 Hindus.
Indians are becoming more beliggerant these days and from an unbiased point of view (I'm half Chinese so that's bad for me) good for them! What kind of peaceful yet cowardly nation lets other bully them around for a full millenium? Yet India has no problem kicking around Christians and lower castes. (though I'm willing to accede bullying lower castes as a result of errant cultural development that does not fully utilize human potential Indians are supposed to be religiously tolerant from their culture)

China. See their mutual agreement of 16 July 2001.

Interesting and relevant but it only covers a narrow topic unless you buy into the prose.

as far as i know u have an incomplete knowledege of wats goin on in the world.

let me tell u sumthings which everyone in the world (atleast all asians)feel(and also is a fact):

USA is the major reason for most of the wars in the world.USA has provoked many countries with its military and nuclear powers.u say usa helps ppl with food, etc. but lemme tell u ,its USA which destroyed most in the world!u can ask anyone in ASIA of the drawbacks of USA.u will find millions...sorry trillions!!!i cant tell u one one as it may take me lifetime to explain u!MOST PREFERRED REASON by all ASIANS:USA does not allow developing countries to bcome developed!Check ur knowledge first man!ur a citizen of USA hence u feel so but see its true side bro!

You're an idiot.

American investments have developed Central, Northern and Eastern China after China opened in 1979-1980. Until then China had lagged behind. It is only in the last decade that India allowed outside investment and dropped the idiotic socialism... voila, economic growth.
Your stupidity and ignorance astounds me.

And I'm Asian. You're so racist.

Guys y dont we accept that we belong to only one country...i.e, HUMAN BEINGS!!

y dont people stop blaming each other and instead think about this planet....like GLOBAL WARMING...

i think ppl in the world will get united only wen there is an attack on human beings by aliens from outer space!

I think people will only have a chance at being united when people like you substitute their daily newspapers for actual sources. You lambast a good nation like the US because your own nation is weak and emasculated.

Unlike you I'm not unbiased. I'm half-Chinese and I know where the wars in the world are coming from...

Islamic Terrorism and China mainly... there's also a number of lesser dictatorships causing trouble and friction causing conflicts between great powers such as NATO-EU and Russia.

I'm unbiased is what I meant oc.

Anyway it's quite astounding that in this thread the OP has not been answered.

One need only look at 'The Empire of All Russia's'... obviously Russia's allies are 'the lesser Russias'. Counting them out there are the client states of central Asia. Only when these are ignored as well can one look for a true friend of Russia... America has shown kindness at times but has its own interests and has been alienated by Russia blaming the USA for providing help and things getting fscked over in the 90's. China is too self-centered. Japan was stabbed in the back by Russia during their peace treaty in World War II... The Finns are wary. Norwegians (I'm half) are NATO, Sweden is independent.
Germany... too many historical grudges. Britain, NATO, plus historical grudges.
Jeeze... India might actually be it, not that I didn't see it earlier.
Nooo wait, the Balkan states because they're slavic and sometimes orthodox.
Mongolia? Bit like a protectorate though... Canada? Just trading... Poland dislikes both Russia and Germany. Ehhh... oh wait!

Armenia! But that is a bit like a client state too...
Jeeze... the Cossacks? Lol

I'm not even going to mention Venez and Iran. They're just funded psychopaths.

The Indians are a bit like traders, but I suppose it qualifies for a friendship.

Honestly though, a completely unconnected friendship with deeper susbstance than Iran would probably have to be found in Europe... if Russia can ever get over the Franco-German invasions.

PS. I in no way shape or form approve of the destruction of Pakistan, but rather the conquest and rehabilitation. But if I was Indian I would consider it as an option, knowing history.

Nothing changed from Alexander II times. "Russia has only 2 allies {it can count on} - it's Army and its Fleet" (+ RVSN, and Air force)"

I think Russia's problem is it tends to assimilate or integrate its allies which makes its neighbors nervous, plus the problem of a ton of potential evil invaders.
But yeah, you're right, good one! Only there is Belorussia, Ukraine, all of the stans except A-stan, P-stan and maybe Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Armenia and ... eh those two in Georgia were integrated... a trading relationship and mild alliance with India, trading miltech and eco with China, very strong eco trade and limited mil to Europe, strong trade with US.

Russia has friends, but they're so small they tend to be known as client states. India is a friend, and the only large one with a military tendency of any sort, but I wouldn't call them BFFs at all. It's a friendship born mostly of circumstance though such things are almost always linked to some genuine feeling.

Its sad for India and Russia to have to rely on each other, just like its cold for strong China to go it alone. At least India is rising, Russia is just recovering ground.

We should all be jealous for the great warmth in NATO, though it has grown cooler thanks to cowardly moralizing hedonists.

OF the great warmth in NATO. I am not suggesting China join NATO though coem to think of that might be a great idea..

Though there is this thing about not beating up other nations for mostly selfish reasons rather than mostly altruistic or absolutely necessity if one joins them though.

And as an afterthought, despite America's share of Vietnam war atrocities, they did well in defending the south who did not want communism... till they ran away and then took their money with them.
