The Chinese sub recently dismantled was built in the early 1970s and was not decommissioned until the early 1990s. It had been tied up at a pier ever since. It wasn’t until late 2013 that China presented its nuclear subs in the Chinese media for the first time. The theme for this event was that in 42 years of operation no Chinese nuclear sub has ever suffered a nuclear reactor accident. This was an indirect dig at the Russians, who are the only nation with nuclear subs to have suffered nuclear accidents.

Except fires, explosions, and at least one pierside RADIATION LEAK.

By the way the Thresher and Scorpion are still missing on patrol and presumed lost. .

History must remain accurate. Loss of the entire nuclear powered sub=loss of its reactor under uncontrolled conditions, which IS a nuclear accident.

Indeed.....took the words out of my mouth.  I know SP can sometimes overlook details and such, but this one, the Thresher and Scorpion being lost at sea is pretty bad.  SMH......

It's a fair judgement. Those accidents where general submarine problems, they didn't involve the nuclear aspect.

It would be nice to see how the chinese stack against the russians and u.s on general submarine accidents.

1. Fair enough to object on proximate cause to the loss of the boat.

Several factors must be considered. Number of submarines operated over time. Quality of the training. Method of employment.

Example:

When you RAM each other in deliberate chicken of the sea encounters, the 'accidents' tend to be numerous. So Russians and Americans tend to have a lot of such accidents. Many submarines take hull damage.  (Surface vessels, too.)

The PLAN has not shown itself proficient in those kind of tactics. They tend to try to avoid bump and scrape.

In other words, when challenged the Chinese are not courageous Russians.
