Well, if anyone could send a cursed Russian sub to the bottom of the ocean it would be the Indians.  I hope their life insurance papers are up to date before they set sail.

The Indian navy has a contract with US navy for deep sea rescue--I doubt it may happen considering the Akula 2 is a proven design. Naval superstition in this case is irrelevant- the champagne bottle not breaking is more worrisome, I am sure the Vodka bottles broke. Reality is India already has had nuclear accidents with loss of lives with their submarine reactor-.  unknown to most. ATV is ready for trials in 2009. But the rumor is India is upgrading to a 30 sub fleet and may even double its defense budget.
