Subject: wheeled soviet subs
violentnuke    3/29/2006 10:21:01 PM
I remember in the 80s reading accounts of Swedes discovering tank like track marks on the sand under their waters, indicating the Soviets might have been using super quiet subs which did not use propellers but somekind of tracked means to evade detection.

Has anyone information about these subs. They were thought as spy subs but also as sort of possible nuke mines, Spetznaz and tactical nuke delivery devices and what not.

I remember that story too. Probably spetznaz subs with electric drive wheels. Might make a nice addition to a diesel boat.

I guess one of the first things you could do as an amateur is track down the distance between the baltic sea wheel tracks and compare it with the little Nuke the USA has. You know, for something to do.

When I did my service as an able seaman in the Swedish Royal Navy, onboard the HMS Mode(1982-83. We did run into the trick with the sub that could climb walls... Mini depth for deploying depth-charges was 11 meters, the bastards did crawl away at ca nine meters of depth... and... very quickly... got away over the rocks that was supposed to have contained them... Lets just say this, we was a very angry crew at that point, if we had got the chance, we would have dropped all we had on them!
