Subject: Danish Home Guard vs Cold War Spetsnaz

link versus link To my understanding, the Home Guard had the role of guarding key sites during the cold war, say perhaps a coastal radar site overlooking the narrow Baltic passes, or an airfield that was home to the Danish airforces F16s, or a similarly important civil site. But judging that the enemy would be likely to use their best troops on such targets, who would come out on top? The vicious Spetsnaz and their throwing-spades, as evidenced by: link Or the valiant Danish, as evidenced by: link Thoughts?

Contrary to popular belief, potbellied out of shape HomeGuardsmen can be VERY effective against special forces:

1. In all probability they would have been discovered, if they infiltrated by plane - Luftmeldekorpset - og by sea Naval Home Guard.
2. the trick is NEVER to engage in hand to hand combat with those types.
3. Keep track of them as they move across country, partly with observer posts - and there were/are a lot of them - and small patrols with dog.
4. lead them towards an ambush - and get the hell out of there.
5. The crux is the proper handover from one patrol to another.
6. Keep the special forces running - make them drop their gear - it's all the supplies they've got.

From what I've been told: Denmark was a hell-hole for special forces - and cost several Rangers officers their carrier.
