What is this thing? What is this thing? It looks too elaborate to be a hoax. Then again..........

I believe it is a device used to capture the muzzle velocity and muzzle energy of a gun, though I have forgotten what it is called.Looks like they are testing an M109A6 Paladin.

It is not a M109, it is a crusader, no idea what it is on the end though?? Wonder why it is painted in a camoflage pattern if it is only for measuring muzzle energy?

I read all about up in the Science Fiction section of this place. It's a Thermal M209 double-thyroid tripple wammy blaster. You can get them Walgreens..

There is no way the M109 could have driven to that position - the device appears to have a fixed base and the M109 is sitting on a ramp with concrete blocks backed against the tracks. You are looking at an image that's been Photoshopped.

It seems real. That's not photoshop, I ran it through and all shadows are correct. Probably some form of computer that absorbs the blast, impact and so on. Either that or it's some Larry Flynt stunt..

Everyone has identified the main equipment as some sort of self propelled gun, ok, not a tank. It appears to simply be pointing into the anus of very large inflated display cannon on the raised display frame. Looks like some artillery unit is just having fun.

It's too big to be mobile! It needs a stage for use! What's the point in silencing? On the other hand it could be a ballistics test fixture but why would it be painted camo? Methinks something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Fretka

Why are those wooden blocks not directly behind the tracks ?You think they are, but are not.I built a " Supertank " with the cloning tool in photoshop, blured this and that and put it in the background of the Ardennes Forrest and put it up on a web page.Till this day some guy's won't believe that I was just pulling a gagg. It's become a " Bigfoot " kind of thing..

My money is with the guys who say this measures muzzle energy/muzzle velocity, etc. I may be an old DAT, but this looks like a real set-up that would be used at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD (sure doesn't look like Ft. Sill to me...)The chambers are obviously designed for pressurization (compare a diver decompression chamber) and could be housing chronographs, video, x-ray equipment, you name it. As for the 3-color camo on the unit, the weathering seems to match that of the howitzer, so chalk it up to some gung-ho REMF's!
