Does it make me less of a man to say that from my cozy office chair I still clinched my teeth.  Arty, how often do we drop payloads like that with the troops only a few feet away?  Great video, thanks!

There is a whole 4 inches of clearance ;) Nothing to worry about lol!!!  18th Fires Brigade at Ft Bragg drop every month.  Sometimes its only 1 howitzer or sometimes like the night this vid was taken 4 or more as part of a major airborne training op.  If we are droppiing from a C130 however teh crew and other elements of the battery are in another aircraft following behind.

Man, that does make me laugh out loud.  What a rush that must be!  Hey, I have two questions for you about the M777.  Is it refered to as the "M-7-7-7" or the "M-Triple-Seven" by the developers and troops?  The other questions is something I have wondered for awhile.  In all the photos and videos of it being towed, I see that it is towed business end forward, is the barrel protected with a cover or shroud from all the road debris and crude kicked up from the truck tires?  I would suppose that it would be cleaned (the barrel) prior to initial firing.

Its just known as the "Triple 7" by pretty much everyone. I had heard that teh Canadian forces may have actually named the Howitzer "Blackjack"  you know 3 x 7 = 21 but I cant actually confirm that.

There is a rubber plug/bung that gets put into teh front of the tube for towing to prevent ingress of debris.
