What kind of futuretist war could you think of, which is different than any other known battle? Something that can be interesting.

Lots of possible scenarios come to mind. Think about nanotechnology, how would that shape future warfare? My imagination starts to fail there. Something closer to the present, it might be interesting to speculate about nonlethal weapons. I can see more of that in the future. The US military and law enforcement establishments are already looking into that. I expect to see some of these systems go online pretty quick.

Here's an idea.  What if war was abolished?  People are always saying the world will be a better place when there's no more war, well what if it happened?  So the entire world beats their swords into plowshares and spends at least one generation in total peace.  Maybe two or three generations, long enough for most of the old weapons of war to rust away and for the skills to be forgotten.

Then, something happens.  Maybe aliens invade, maybe it's zombies, maybe it's just a guy reinventing the idea of warfare; but the point is that people have to start fighting again.  So you have the whole philosophical dilemma as people choose between death, slavery, or war.  You also have the fun re-evolution of combat arms and tactics.

how about virtual wars?  really big sophisticated wargames monitored by a neutral party lets everyone blow shit up to their heart's content without anyone getting hurt and think of the tv rights sales.
