47 minutes is all it takes when you put an unprotected (or a honey pot) out on the net. I believe that number is a median time from a computer security site study.

Personally I use a $20 NAT router to act as a cheap temporary Firewall till I have the OS, patches, and application installed. Then I change the IP addresses on the server and remove the NAT router.

Yeah I build clusters at CoLos around North America and I have to be paranoid, those sites are magnets for attacks.
