Subject: First computer virus
perdurabo    6/11/2005 3:57:40 PM
"The first know computer virus, the Brain Virus, was created in Pakistan in 1986."

Untrue. The first computer virus to spread in the wild was Elk Cloner, written for the AppleII, in 1982.

Hmm...I recall computer geeks complaining about viruses spreading uncontrolled back in 1979. Although the term virus may not have been used much. One term I recall was a 'crawling bug'. As in: "Hey pal!. A bug crawled off that disk you loaned me yeasterday. I had to rewrite 300 lines of code last night."
