Not much of a secret, it was in fact an idea that came into fruition in the final years of  the last Bush administration.  Security, accessibility, inventory control, environmental and maintenance ability on par with the best western nations  eliminated everybody in the region except Israel.

Their are three "musts" required to conduct  military operations. A unit must be able to move, shoot and communicate. In a meeting or deliberate combat engagement, infantry on infantry usually boils down to a bunch of riflemen shooting the crap out of another bunch of riflemen, orders and information are shouted out. Most of the time individual soldiers are clueless as to what direction  they are going and where they end up. Compass and now GPS are important tools that help bring to bare heavy support elements and SITREPS to HQ. But not having a Compass or GPS  does not preclude the ability of well trained and conditioned skilled soldiers to bring support elements into the fray.  Artillery and support tubes can be rigged with donkey sights, get the enemy between them an its murder. Aircraft can be signaled by smoke or colored  panels PRC radio. Both can be ranged using tried and true fire adjustment signals. I agree that GPS is nice tool, it could be knocked out, but I don't think it will be for long.  The most important thing in warfare is how well your people are trained.
