Very true that!

Everybody in Israel but the government, understands that if Hama"ss is allowed to remain standing after this round of fighting, it will be able to declare itself victorious.
The far right is gaining in popularity by supporting a hard line against the islamists, but most citizens understand that reoccupying Gaza will be no picnic, and will be costly in terms of soldiers' blood, treasury,  and international relations. OTOH, eliminating Hama"ss power seems to be worth the blood spilled, as it would give at least a glimmer of a chance for Peace with the surviving Gaza residents, who deserve it as much as the Israeli citizens living along the border.

I do not support the view that Gaza should be handed to Mahmud 'Abbas' Palestinian Authority, which has the same goals as Hama"ss but only differs with it on the method: they argue (in Arabic only) that a "two states" peace agreement that strips the West Bank and Jerusalem off Israel will mean the end of the "zionist entity", and they are right. Apart from the fact that the losing the Judean heartland and the City would be a heavy morale and spiritual blow to the Jewish ethos, it is quite certain that no peace would ensue. A few mortar squads on the hills above the "green line" could shut down the Israeli economy. There would be no need for heavy artillery rockets there, nor would the Iron Dome be of any use at that range.

A clear-cut Israeli victory on Hama"ss is therefore necessary in order to burn the necessity of Peace into the Arab consciousness, just as Peace in Europe and in the Far East did not occur before the total defeat of nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.

Who had the idea that insulting Israel and undercutting their economic activity with disinvestment will make Israel give better terms to anyone? I don't think the progressives approach to pressuring Israel has a well thought out end game. Is Turkey willing to give the PKK the same terms they wish Israel to give Hamas? Will Iran recognize the IDFs right to ship weapons and cash to mistreated Sunni rebels in Iran? Is Iran's desire to control it's borders criminal and should we protest it by sending IDF produced rockets and IEDs to the drug cartels at war with Iran?
