I believe it is some kind of political maneuvering between Hamas and PLO. They are playing some kind of "good cop / bad cop" or "good Palestinian / bad Palestinian" game with the rest of the world. I am not sure what it exactly is, but I expect some bombastic statement from Abbas (PLO) in next few days.

This is the 3rd Hamas rocket war with Israel. But Hamas may have cried "wolf" a little too often. The Jew haters in Europe will give them plenty of headlines and the big US news channels come forth with their inane nightly "reports", but the money is drying up. So far only Saudi Arabia is ready with oil money, they haven't yet figured out that money for Hamas benefits Saudi Arabia enemy Iran. How does all this effect Israel? What have constant wars done to them? Israel is a military powerhouse, complete with industrial and technological base and peaking with atomic weapons. Constant pressure has forced them into business with the US (F15I's, Aircraft, Armor, Guns, Ammo etc), Russia (sales of drones and technology), Germany (U-Boats), Italy (fighter trainers), India (electronics, satellite)and the list goes on and on. Do you want a winning weapons system? Buy what they buy, use what they use. They have the best and most feared intell services in the world with long memories they. are not afraid to strike long and deep. Warfare tends to increase the rate of technological development. Newer weapons will appear, Arabs will not be able to manufacture them, Israel will. Oil money will dry up but Israel will have something better-- a huge technological base from which to work. Israel is the third Jewish state to exist in its location in 3,000 years. They are not going away any time soon. You'd think the Arabs would have figured all this out by now. :7)

Gazans should not harbor Hamas.
I  belive if Palestinians feel or know ;Israel is obsolette may abolish her self ,turn tiny religious satate like Vatian ,limited same part  of Kudus ,probably thats why they  are high being enemy againts Jewish more than Israel  ,and thats how Israel mlitary acton justfied. Not evey Gazans support Hamas thats why Israel shlod occupy and rule Gaza.

The goal of Palestinians is forming a Palestinian state, any Palestinian state, without recognizing Israel. Perhaps they think that casualties would bring them closer to their goal. If not, c'est la vie, they never care for their own dead. That is the essence of 'martyrdom'.  Person 'A' says 'We are no afraid to die for the cause', and then sends person 'B' to be martyred.

Looks like the Hamas rockets are no longer effective because of Iron Dome OR it has worked after all.  It has certainly succeeded in goading Netanyahoo into another protracted ground invasion and now the IDF is finally incurring casualties while fighting in a build up area.  Hamas is now springing underground surprises like never before and following the same playbook as the Viet Cong and North Koreans did by using tunnels for both basing and infiltration purpose against superior air and armored opposition.  They are learning to adapt to fight assymetrically against a vastly superior military opponent by tunneling under the Gaza protective wall as well as drawing IDF armor and infantry into urban kill zones. They could even go further by tunneling anti-tank pits like the punji stick pits that were used by the VC against US soldiers, but instead plant explosives underneath the path of oncoming AFV's to trap them and blow them up.  Kind of like the early US civil war where tunnels were used by either side to plant explosives into each others position.  Either way Hamas is in a gotterdamerung with the current blockade by Egypt and Israel and have nothing left to lose.  If they survive this round and inflict enough casualties against the IDF then it would be considered a victory.  Hamas may be the only viable opposition left for the Palestinians as Fatah has all but given up on the armed struggle even though they could have started another Intifada to tie down the Israelis in the West Bank as Netanyahoo has increased settlement expansion and Hezbollah is tied up with fighting the Syrian rebellion.  Either way, the Palestinian cause is do or die anyways and they really have nothing left to lose.

what else do they do? They are overmatched in every way, to kill 13 soldiers today is a massive victory, It's not hamas who is murdering children.

IDF should be using the hyperexplosive petroleum fuel-mist bombs that the US used to get al queda fighters hiding in Afgan mountain tunnels. The explosion creates a high pressure fuel mist which fills the tunnel and is then ignited with a violent explosion that in addition to killing occupants directly, removes all the oxygen from tunnel air, suffocating all inside. Good luck IDF. Allah is going to need to order more virgins.

Actually, its precisely Hamas which is killing children. Only a simpleton blames the gun for the murder, and not the a-hole pulling the trigger.
Hit Israel with rocket barrages, of course theres a military response. This is Hamas's only play, has always been so. That doesn't mean you don't  hold them accountable. They're the ones responsible for Palestinain deaths.
And to those commenting they've nothing left to lose, get your facts straight, sure, Hamas has nothing left to lose, but the Palestinians sure as hell do, and are losing it every day. That chance to live a normal life, to have a state, is not in Hamas's interest, i doubt it's in Fatach's, it sure as sh!t wasn't in Arafts.
You see peeps, the problem with a bona fide state, is it comes with all kinds of nasty inconveniences, like accountability. People demanding to know where all the money they've paid in taxes has gone, or where all the internationally donated funds have gone. The kind of awkward questions your typical scumbag dictator would rather not answer.
Araft died with a personal fortune of over 4 billion dollars. While west bank and gaza were going to ruins without money to pay public servants and no new infrastructure being built.
Long story short, the entire region would be well shot of Hamas, Israel would be a happier place, Gaza would be a happier place, even the West Bank would be a happier place. You never know your luck in the big city, they might even get a state. Not so long as Hamas is firing rockets at Israel and then calling media attention to Israeli atrocitys.

It looks like Israel has to go in and destroy Hamas infrastructure every 5 years or so. When they are done, it keeps Hamas busy until they rebuild it and grants Israel a period of relative peace. Then the cycle starts again. Perhaps the next rebuild period will be longer, because Egyptian regime is hostile towards terrorists, again. During Mursi rule they had more freedom to operate from Egypt.
