Subject: Give the West Bank to Jordan?
reefdiver    6/1/2009 11:38:37 AM
I've noticed mention of proposals to give (return?) the West Bank to Jordan. Are there serious discussions about this, and if so I'm curious how Israeli's feel this would play out?

Take a deep breath and imagine you are the king of Jordan. Now consider... Do you want the West bank annexed to your country, seeing as it comes with a problematic and potentially hostile population, who could drag your country into warfare with Israel, or agitate to instill Islamic law?
Imagine you are a Palestinian resident of the West bank, a devout Muslim. After decades of shouting about wanting your own state, would you stand down and agree to become a citizen (and probably a second class one) of Jordan instead?

A foolish Israeli Knesset member did say recently that he thinks Jordan is the Palestinian state - equivalent to a Jordanian parlimentarian saying he thinks Israel is the Palestinian state.

So you can see there is nothing to it other politicians blowing intestinal gas from their mouths instead of the rear exit valve like the rest of us.

I tend to agree. Would you want them back if you were King of Jordan?
