Considering new Iraqi government, the foreign minister post is held by Ibrahim al-Jaafari. Same man had to step down from prime minister post in 2005 due to US pressure. US considered him an Shiite extremist, and indeed, he received support from radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.

Perhaps he is a reformed man today..... I don't know, but it doesn't look like step forward in Iraqi Shia - Sunni relations. I remembered his name and it was surprise to me when he joined new national unity government. International press have short memory, obviously, or they are too busy to check their own archives.

I am starting to act like a blogger here, and I hate bloggers.

I have been watching some videos made by Jihadists. It is most difficult to escape the impression that they are idiots.

For example, soldiers are carrying swords. What kind of idiot would carry sword instead of ammo, food, medical supplies, batteries ? What are they doing in front of the cameras ? Shouting stupid slogans, singing stupid songs with no rhythm or melody, dancing ugly, grotesque dances. Discharging weapons in the air. What kind of army allows soldiers to discharge weapons in the air ? My impression is that it must be rewarding and thrilling to be stupid and not feeling bad about it.

Why idiots can't be defeated ? Partly because some of them are smart and yet embrace stupidity. Partly because there are those on the other side who buy that stupidity. Like "They must be oppressed if they are willing to die because of it". We are living in the age of emancipation of idiots on all sides. Easy to use Internet services allowed idiots to connect, to realize that they are many and now they feel strong. And oppressed by those who call them idiots.

I guess the definition of soldier isn't a universal norm then.
No, to us these aren't soldiers, just a bunch of retards with weapons these morons couldn't hope to build, never mind conceptualise, bought with petro dollars.
In the west it takes a few years to train an effective soldier, millions of dollars, massive effort, but what you get is an effective disciplined trooper that knows his business. He'd rate master or artisan in any trade equivillant.

In the red corner we have an illiterate peasant, fed on tv and dope, harbouring dreams of killing in the name of (insert random piece of propaganda here), all the loot he can carry, and all the quim he can fuck. His training consists of a few weeks rolling in the sand and being shown twice how to cock his AK-47.. Can't spend too long as he's liable to get bored or shoot his bunkies cause his dick isn't as big as theirs.

Hence your 'soldier' running around with a sword (holly shit, look at that, he's got a sword, i should get a sword, swords are cool!!) and shooting his rifle off in the air (yeah baby, never had an enemy in my crosshairs [i have crosshairs?!?] gonna do what they taught me in training, full rock and roll, aim high, head down, and get some ).

The arabs success is because we have overly invasive government in our fights. As in, pervasive media, reporting on shit they dont understand, to civilians who have no idea, who complain incessantly, to representatives who's sole job is to get re-elected. Beating arabs is easy, being allowed to do it is hard.

Anyone old enough to remember when Shotgun News was selling beaucoups
Israeli-captured  Hakim Carbines that were in "Dropped in sand once" condition.  Anyone who reveals what use those devices are that protrude from the top of the receiver and barrel to the Arabs...should be hung as a traitor.

karlmaier    ISIS isn't that strong   10/25/2014 10:42:26 PM
The ISIS threat is being blown way out of proportion, this is just a group of criminals with religious support. Their logistics are a joke, where they have to mostly steal all their equipment and weapons. Considering that modern warfare uses up material at an awesome rate, and the fact that enemies sit on all of ISIS's supply lines, it's just a matter of time before the ISIS commanders start fighting over scarce resources. I wonder if anyone is looking at the ISIS desertion rate? And look how many of their own are already getting beheaded and crucified for theft, spying, etc... LOL that's got to be sending shivers of fear through the moral of the entire force.

Hi karlmaier I think you need to compare ISIS to the SAS or other special forces that also don't have a long logistical tail but still achieve a lot.

No,
There is no world in which you can compare ISIS to any western fielded special forces, SAS or otherwise.
Any western force fielded in the last half century, is expected to fight with what they are given, have it replenished as its used.
I've not heard of a mission where a western force was supposed to use what they could scrounge in order to make do.
Maybe the dessert rats fighting Rommel, but that was a long long time ago. And that was mostly fuel. You dont want to lug around ammo for your weapons, let alone a whole nother set of ammo for completely different types of equipment.

You could say SAS make do with very little but they don't keep their war effort going using what they find on the field.
I think thats what the other posters here are implying as regards ISIS's supply lines being stretched.
If you need to defeat your enemy in order to replenish your war stocks to keep fighting, that only works until it doesn't. From that first moment on when it didn't work? Well, look up the meaning of the acronym FUBAR.

"I've not heard of a mission where a western force was supposed to use what they could scrounge in order to make do." But what would happen if you tasked 2000 SAS to go into Syria and do the best they can against ISIS, by concentrating forces and grabbing whatever they could from the enemy and to continue fighting with that. Like (as you mentioned) the Desert Rats. Would your money be on ISIS or the SAS? Just because we have no NEED to fight like that doesn't mean that our professional SAS would be UNABLE to fight like that if ordered to do so. And I believe that the SAS fighting like that is a closer model to ISIS's success to date, rather than talking about non-existent logistical lines.

Theres an old expression, amateurs discuss tactics, generals discuss logistics.
Who gives a monkeys ass if the SAS could do what ISIS do in some hell hole?

Its a mental question. Each SAS troop costs over a million dollars to get to where he is (usually much much more).

I shouldn't get into this argument with you. Yes, whatever, some/any/no/who cares troops could or couldn't do what ISIS has done. Irrelevant. We dont fight like this because its a stupid way to fight. For a million reasons. Really not going to detail all of them. If you're too lazy to read about how stupid what you suggest is, then just take  my word for it.
Its a very short sighted method of fighting. Read my last line.
It works right up until it doesn't, at which point your entire army dies.
