My minimalist position--if feasible- Coalition should recover its cost of operation, I don't know how that is doable?? A tax will not go down well, an indirect profit sharing thru private corp, but then the oil companies didn't finance or staff the war?? Ideas folks?? Or is it something we should just forget??

Great news, if it's so.  I cant see how it would realistically happen, given that;

1- The security situation is still so poor that we're having a really hard time doing something as simple as fixing the electricity grid. Creating from scratch the massive and highly vulnerable infrastructure that would be required is not realistic until after the insurgency dies out (dying -down- wont be enough; it actually has to die -out-)

2- The longevity of the current government is at best questionable.  Should any such deal be struck, it's likely that any new government would make renegotiating it aggresively their #1 priority.

Re: where should the profits go, about that one I'm very clear; straight back to the federal government.  Ideally to pay down the massive public debt the Iraq war has caused.

Its going to be a bonanza for China, Russia, Iran and Indian companies--and that to at our expense. ie if we leave Iraq.
Talk about luck--one of the largest oil reserves just falls in ur lap.

Whether or not anything of the sort is on our lap is still TBD, prognosis at best uncertain.

Costs, however, know, high and certain.
