Subject: One more thread - Kevin Tillman speaks
eu4ea    10/24/2006 12:28:18 PM
I've watched from the sidelines the controversy over the deleted "T..tt..Tet?" post - I saw how SYSOPS re-instated it, saw how they did not delete my "Regarding deleting dissenting posts" thread, and read the responses to that. On that basis, I've decided to join the discussion on SP again. Unlike most of my last posts, this thread is simply a vervatim reprint of a recent article - that written by Kevin Tillman regarding the death of his brother Pat. They are his views, not mine - though my perspective does mirror Kevin Tillman's in many important ways. eu4ea

If you look at the dates, I think it's quite clear that Pat and Kevin Tillman signed up in the wake of 9/11, and like most of the country supported the administration taking a strong stand about this.

However (again like most of the country) they became tremendously disenchanted with the reaction that this particular administration has adopted - and beyond that they also became disenchanted with the apathy that most of their fellow citizens displayed towards such policies.

I fail to see how the fact that they voluntarily signed up in the wake of 9/11 disqualifies them - but perhaps you'd care to elaborate on that?

Heart,

"Somehow our elected leaders were subverting international law and humanity by setting up secret prisons around the world, secretly kidnapping people, secretly holding them indefinitely, secretly not charging them with anything, secretly torturing them. Somehow that overt policy of torture became the fault of a few “bad apples” in the military."

Well now i think Kevin has forgotten what Baath, CCP,USSR,Nazi Germany,Imperial Japan,Viet-Cong,North Koreans,Persians,Sunni's and Shia's are really all about, and hence he confuses why he lives here, and not in these places!. Now if Kevin thinks these things about the USA, then maybe he should get his a** outta here, or get a time machine and go back to the places above and learn the real difference?

"Somehow back at home, support for the soldiers meant having a five-year-old kindergartener scribble a picture with crayons and send it overseas, or slapping stickers on cars, or lobbying Congress for an extra pad in a helmet. It’s interesting that a soldier on his third or fourth tour should care about a drawing from a five-year-old; or a faded sticker on a car as his friends die around him; or an extra pad in a helmet, as if it will protect him when an IED throws his vehicle 50 feet into the air as his body comes apart and his skin melts to the seat."

Well now again i guess Kevin forgets what those in "ALL US WAR'S" already know's? WAR IS HELL,AS IT WAS FOR ALL OUR BRAVE!. Oh and btw Kevin,my uncle would sure have liked to get a scribble from backhome, however all he and other's got back from America in Vietnam was "Baby Killer,John Kerry, and Loser!". So Boo-Hoo!!!. Oh and those phrases should sound familar to people like Kevin,Kerry, and Sheenan, since this is what there comment's will bring to our brave like McCain,Sheenan's son, and Kevin's brother Pat!.

"Somehow American leadership, whose only credit is lying to its people and illegally invading a nation, has been allowed to steal the courage, virtue and honor of its soldiers on the ground."

Well now again i guess Kevin is flashing back to LBJ or perhap's he meant John Kerry? Well now in the case of John Kerry? He could flash back to the early 1970's,1990's, or  2004!. Yeah or FDR for not placing US Forces on alert when receiving much intelligence about Imperial Japan planning an attack on the US. Yes i bet if we had been informed by FDR an attack was likely, many brave men would have went down fighting, instead of getting buried while asleep!.

"Somehow profiting from tragedy and horror is tolerated."

Well now again i guess Kevin means the 99.9% of the world who allow weapons to be sold to those who would kill their fellow man? Please Kevin seek some help, and start with Russia and CCP or all those Arms Brokers from the EU!.

"Somehow the death of tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people is tolerated."

Well now i guess Kevin really means the 99.9% of the world which sit's back and watches just that happen to the people of Sudan?. Or perhap's he mean't Tibet or Tianiamin Square?. Or maybe he meant the Kurd's? Or perhap's he meant the Chechen's?. No he probably meant the Jew's?. Oh and btw Kevin, perhap's you just meant our fellow American's?. Since we murder our own without thought and without being in a foreign land!. And i guess the US Leadership and GW are the cause of this as well hey?. Nope, it's called human nature, and we all have it!. Some just have it more then others!. Well i could go on and on with Kevin but i have to get to work!.

They, as in Kevin and the corpse of his brother, which Kevin uses as a soapbox.
This article is not about losing a brother and has nothing to do with Pat Tillman.

“If you look at the dates, I think it's quite clear that Pat and Kevin Tillman signed up in the wake of 9/11, and like most of the country supported the administration taking a strong stand about this.

However (again like most of the country) they became tremendously disenchanted with the reaction that this particular administration has adopted - and beyond that they also became disenchanted with the apathy that most of their fellow citizens displayed towards such policies.  “

To become disenchanted with the reaction of this administration they would have had needed a level of expectation that was drastically overturned by this President and his advisors. The fact is that Bush and his advisors had it in for Saddam Hussein and a less conciliatory foreign policy was highly likely. While bin-Laden was quickly fingered as an instigator of the attacks, it become known fairly early that the Bush Administration Saddam had a hand. There was perhaps a belief in the 1990’s by members of this administration that Saddam was behind the series of terrorist attacks on the U.S. and our foreign interests. Nothing was ever proved or disproved that Ramzi Yousef attack the WT with Iraqi Intelligence sponsorship, al-Qaeda sponsorship or that he was a lone nut who called on some support from either of these organizations. The Clinton Administration chose not to conduct a broad investigation of the WT I bombing to determine is there were links to state sponsorship – Iraq. Apprehension of Ramzi became the prime focus and to the credit of the State Department Counter Terrorism Department he was found. The short sightedness of the search and investigation was highlighted when after Ramzi was removed from his apartment a Time Magazine reported interviewed an individual living in a downstairs apartment as a businessman. That businessman who was living in an al-Qaeda safe house was Sheik Khalid Mohammad. The FBI had not focused on Iraq – to either prove or disprove the state sponsorship issue – and missed the link to al-Qaeda.

With such a sorry record of the Clinton Administration in combating terror, it is not hard to understand that Bush became a zealot in pursuing any obvious or suspected terrorist lead. Iraq may or may not have been an active player in terrorist acts against the U.S., but Saddam was certainly motivated to support anyone or any effort to strike at the U.S. To say that our action against Saddam was ill advised and a mistake missunderestimate the pressures felt by George Bush.

I am not sure Kevin even sat down and thought out all the points he put down. All his points are mere repetition from the criticism of the left that have been out for years.

When I say he should be a man I mean that a wider understanding of U.S. policy and potential actions should have been obvious to anyone who paid close attention to current events. Kevin appears not to and it is to his “awakening” that with him I find fault.

Just as Cindy Sheehan's "absolute moral authority" was cancelled out by the majority of parents who thought their child's sacrifice was worthwhile, so is Kevin Tillman's opinions netted out by those who have served, and those who continue to serve to this day.   If these folks' opinions correlate to a large extent with Osama's views on things, they (and you, eu4ea) are the ones who should explain to the rest of us why that is.  Even more, they should be able to make it clear as to how they supposedly love their country but agree with its enemies before the rest of us should take them seriously.

That being said, they and all those who've lost someone in this war have my full and unreserved sympathies on their loss, but little else.
