This is the problem with so many in this world today. I'm offended daily by many things and many people daily, but I don't take out my 9mm and start shooting people who offend me. Heck, I don't even burn the odd car. And thank heavens my wife doesn't either - she's particularily offended by my farting when watching TV. Of course I have to admit to ocassionally desiring one of those portable semi-automatic German 20mm WWII anti-tank rifle when I'm offended by yet another "gay" driver trying to drive up my rear on the highway..

Indeed! What if all of the world's sectarians took offense as easily and with as much violence as Muslims? There would not be a Muslim left in the Western Hemisphere and probably none in Europe or India or Africa or the Philipines. To what, I wonder, do Muslims ascribe the absence of reciprocity from Christians? Perhaps we are enervated and feckless in their eyes.

ABC News Singaporean raped 5 daughters, jailed for 32 years Reuters SINGAPORE - A Singaporean Muslim man with 10 wives and 64 children was sentenced to 32 years in jail and a caning for raping five of his under-age daughters, court documents showed. The 45-year-old man, who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of his daughters, was sentenced on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to five charges of rape and admitted to another 34 charges, including rape and attempted aggravated rape. "The numerous rapes in this case were systematic and sickening," said High Court Judge Tay Yong Kwang in the judgment. "The mothers of the young girls had somehow been persuaded by the accused that what he was doing was right. That deprived the daughters of one escape route that they could have taken -- that of approaching some adults whom they trusted to confide in them their predicament." The court sentenced him to 24 strokes of the cane. According to the court documents, the man said he was a qualified religious teacher. During a religious class, he told his wives and daughters that, according to the Koran, he had complete ownership over his children as a father, including the right to have sex with them. The wives then acted as his messengers, telling their daughters to meet their father in his bedroom whenever he wanted sex over a period of 18 months. Two of the teenage daughters became pregnant and had to have abortions. The eldest daughter, who is now 16, went to the police last June to report the rapes. In his mitigation plea, the man said he had found his older daughters "behaving inappropriately" with boys and he thought that "if he could satisfy the sexual needs of his daughters, they would be less likely to engage in sexual activities with boys." The man, who ran a transportation business, had four legal wives and six contractual wives -- an arrangement whereby a Muslim couple enters into a union for a fixed term. His 33 sons and 31 daughters range in age from 9 months to 16 years. Singapore's multiracial population is about 77 percent ethnic Chinese, 14 percent Malay, 8 percent Indian, and 1 percent Eurasian. From today police in Tehran will be under orders to arrest women failing to conform to the regime's definition of Islamic morals by wearing loose-fitting hijab, or headscarves, tight jackets and shortened trousers exposing skin. Offenders could be punished with £30 fines or two months in jail. Officers will also be authorised to confront men with outlandish hairstyles and people walking pet dogs, an activity long denounced as un-Islamic by the religious rulers. The clampdown coincides with a bill before Iran's conservative-dominated parliament proposing that fines for people with TV satellite dishes rise from £60 to more than £3,000. Millions of Iranians have illegal dishes, enabling them to watch western films and news channels. The dress purge is led by a Tehran city councillor, Nader Shariatmaderi, a close ally of Mr Ahmadinejad who helped to plot last year's election victory. Loosely arranged headscarves - exposing glamourous hairstyles - and shorter, tight-fitting overcoats (manteaus) became a symbol of the social freedoms that flourished under the reformist presidency of Mohammed Khatami. During his election campaign, Mr Ahmadinejad dismissed fears that his presidency might herald a forced reversal, saying Iran had more urgent problems. However, Mr Shariatmaderi denounced the trends as "damaging to revolutionary and Islamic principles". "We are looking for a social utopia to live in but in the last couple of months, our attention has wavered," he told fellow councillors. "In the present international situation, people must unite under known principles." The clampdown recalls the aftermath of the 1979 Islamic revolution, when women wearing lipstick were often confronted by female vigilantes wiping their faces clean with handkerchiefs, which were said to often conceal razor blades. The new campaign will hold taxi agencies accountable for their passengers' attire, police will be able to impound cabs carrying women dressed "inappropriately". Agencies guilty of repeat offences will be closed. Police have reportedly been stopping women motorists recently whose hijab was judged inadequate. Police have also raided fashion stores and seized brightly coloured manteaus. Tehran's police chief, Morteza Talai, said the campaign would try to clamp down on people making "the social environment insecure". Young women shopping in north Tehran's fashionable Tajrish neighbourhood yesterday, however, were uncowed. Matin, 24, a nurse, was wearing a gaudily patterned light-blue head scarf pushed back to reveal sunglasses and bleached blond hair. Her tight, short black manteau with intricate gold patterns seemed designed to provoke the ire of the authorities. But she was unrepentant. "I'm a married woman and it should be my husband who tells me what and what not to wear. He likes the way I dress," she said. Surprisingly, Narges Asgari, 20, a dressmaker wearing an all-encompassing black chador, was also critical. "I don't think people will listen because they want to take decisions themselves," she said.
