.. Now Jews took land without paying for it and created settlements, often taking land that the local Palestinians had title to. Naturally, this was resented but the basically peaceful Arabs could do little…
I have a certain amount of sympathy for defending ones home.
The issues I have are with how they go about it. Yes I understand they are the weaker power and will not win a military struggle with Israel. That is just the facts of over half a century of wars and conflict (maybe one should take a lesson from that).
In general, when you lose a war (in their case a series of wars) you are somewhat screwed as far your ability to lay claim to things (particularly when you were on the agressors side). That being said, political pressure has been pretty constant on Israel to give the Palestinians land, rights, and all sorts of other stuff in exchange for peaceful co-existence. Which, on numerous occasions the Israeli's have been willing to do and have done and gotten nothing but more attacks in return.
Instead of peacefully accepting the "land for peace" deals and continuing POLITICAL discussions, negotiations, and using other legal means to address their concerns... they strap bombs to themselves and walk onto busses loaded with women and children.. Sorry, that pretty much surrenders any amount of sympathy for their "situation" I might have had.
