| Why is the Typhoon not inferior?
Well, I would say that it is not inferior because the Typhoon has a foreplane/delta configuration which is aerodynamically unstable. This means the Typhoon is more agile than the F-22, particularly at supersonic speeds; reduced drag; and an overall increase in lift (also enhancing STOL performance). This is of course just one example on aerodynamic characteristics.
While the F-22 has a 35,000lb thrust, it is a heavier and less agile aircraft and so the Typhoons lighter airframe, coupled with 40,000lbs worth of thrust, makes it a lot faster and more manoeuvrable. The F-22 flys at a maximum speed of Mach 1.8, while the Typhoon achieves Mach 2.0 at 65,000 feet.
Typhoon will be equipped with 2 x Advanced Short-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (ASRAAMs), 4 x Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) whilst simultaneously carrying air-to-surface ordnance which could include Laser Guided Bombs (Paveway 2 and 3), Brimstone anti-armour weapon, Storm Shadow and Air Launched Anti-Radiation Missile (ALARM). Ultimately, Meteor, a combination of rocket and air-breathing technology, will replace AMRAAM as Typhoon's primary long range Air to Air Missile.
While the F-22 armament?s include two AIM-9 Sidewinders, six AIM-120C Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM), one 20mm Gatling gun, two 1,000-pound Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM)
So while the F-22 and the Typhoon carry similar munitions, I would suggest that the inclusion of Shadow Storm and Brimstone, give the Typhoon a swing role, which the F-22 doesn?t have.
So really, when we compare the two excellent aircrafts, which is the superior? Considering that the Typhoon is cheaper and much better looking! Lol eh? Do some research next time, eh?
