or they simply don't have a clue. link A C802 missile carries more than 300lbs explosive payload, which will immediately sink any Israeli patrol missile ship. They just don't have a clue how they were hit.

"yet all it achieved, based on current information, is reparable damage." This is where I disagree. The ship was reported as being seriously damaged and the Israelis are refusing to release images of the ship clearly for morale reasons.

" One mounted on Japanese warship shot down a USN A-6E about 10 years ago, and another one mounted on a ROCN frigate shot down a target-towing aircraft. Both were accidentally set on auto." Both targets were manned-aircrafts, and probably high flying ones at that. A plane's flight profile and radar signature is very different from a cruise missile

FYI, myth, CIWS's radar can lock on sea gulls within gun range.

>>FYI, myth, CIWS's radar can lock on sea gulls within gun range.<< This is ridiculous. They said it's not turned on. Even the warning receiver, what're they doing there?

They brag something never being turned on so everyone can bluff it. What a show.

"I see this as an indication that the C-802 is a potential threat, but only if allowed to be one." am I the only one who thinks that if its a C-802 then there's something wrong with the picture? a C-802 hitting a small missile corvette should turn said corvette into a tea strainer. it should literally blow the back of that boat off if it works as advertised. It should in real terms cut that small ship in half. maybe people should settle down a bit on the speculation until there is some more concrete evidence.

"A plane's flight profile and radar signature is very different from a cruise missile" depending on the cruise missile. we used to use Scooters to simulate cruise missiles - in fact they're one of the planes that are ideal for simulating russian/chinese cruise missiles.

"am I the only one who thinks that if its a C-802 then there's something wrong with the picture?" Not in the least. But that seems to assume it actually hit the ship.

"But that seems to assume it actually hit the ship." lets assume that it has the chinese walmart export quality tag and doesn't work as bought - ie it becomes an inert round rather than an explosive round. even if its inert, it should give a small corvette sized vessel the maritime equivalent of "spina bifida". the kinetic energy alone should be enough to break a corvette in half - as that was also one of the "selling points" of the 802 - ie it was a flying volkswagen.

I actually think it IS a C801/C802 that actually hit the ship, but it hit the stern, which probably knocked out steering and power and caused a fire. Whether the system on Saar 5 is effective or not is irrelavant since it was off by IDF/Navy's order. It is always the Air Forces who call the shot in IDF. It was confirmed by Defense Ministry of Israel. In other words, IDF/Navy was just lucky. The other ship got the second missile was sunk. That ship has a crew of more than a dozen which tells us that the ship might be a 3000t-10,000t (cargo weight for displacement) mechant ship.
