Subject: RE:23 JUne forgetting Brtitish defeats and French victories
french stratege    6/23/2005 3:41:21 PM
Anglo saxon history is a little partial:
1884 A Chinese Army defeats the French at Bacle, Indochina.:
A very minor incident which started the third Franco Chinese war we won.
Chinese attacked treacherously (as they just have signed first threaty of TIEN-TSIN the 11 may 1884 where Chinese were supposed to recongnize their defeat and to give Vietnam to french) the little French force and outnumbered them, then French retreated with few casualties (much less than Lang son where we lost 200 men). This affair is known in France as "guet-apens de Bac-Lé" (trap of Bacle)
We soon avenged that, Courbet destroyed Chinese fleet and forces, then Chinese signed the second TIEN-TSIN threaty and lost Vietnam for ever.
I will pay tribute to our glorious victory at Tuyên-Quang in March 1885 where 600 French from marine infantry besieged by 20 000 chinese manage to resist andinflict them more than 6000 casualties.
I guess this is purely French bashing history because French have much more events to be proud of, or Brtish to forget:
- 23 june 1305 Treaty of Athis-sur-Orge between France and Flander where the French won French flander after the beating of Dutchs while French were outnumberered at the battle of Mons-en-Pévèle with the slaughter of 36 000 dutch soldiers 18 august 1304.
-23 june 1372 - Naval battle of La Rochelle:British severely beaten in naval battle. French regain control of English Channel. www.friedgold.co.uk/battles.html
1796 23 june : armistice between Bonaparte and Pope at Bologne after french vicotries on papal states armies
23 june 1800 : victory of French General Lecourbe at Nordlingen and in the same day victory of French general Moreau at Nerescheim
23 june 1451 : French victory of French on British at Bordeaux: end of Brtish control of Aquitaine
23 june of 1916: French army stop biggest German army offensive at Verdun: start of drawback of German until final victory on Dauamont (absolute glory)
23 june of 1919: German reichstag ratify treaty of Versailles and French victory in WW1!
